The Alonso Thread - hands in transfer request

Either start a goal.com thread in rumours and post it all there or don't post it at all. The only time they ever get things right on there or tribalfootball is after an official press conference. We're nearly at 200 pages on here as it is! :p

Well, I'm quite dissapointed with Xabi. :( Let's see how accurate is Uncle Alberto now.

Sabre, I like Xabi alot... but if we really do get 34 million pounds for him at least it'll soften the blow and it is the right pice... even though I'm disappointed I believe Xabi has acted very professionally throughout his time here and if he wanted to go then he should go at the right price I believe what made him want to move to Real is caused by the alleged bust up he had with rafa when his baby was born and he decided not to join the team for the CL game and the subsequent Rafa's pursuit of Barry and how he was put in the transfer list last season... well I believe you need two hands to clap and if you're disappointed with xabi you surely have to be disappointed with rafa as well...

this whole saga will only make sense if we sold alonso for 30 mil, and can get a replacement who is 1) cheaper (2) younger  (3) pass better.

thats what happened to the ronaldive and the mancs, they knew they couldnt get a replacement for ronaldive for 40 mil (fair value) and hence hold on for 80 mil (premium).
the worst case scenario is we are forced to sell alonso and couldnt find a replacement.
i can honestly said that the mancs are weaker than last season, and so we have to go a further step and improve our squad stronger than last season to get the holy grail.

so my whole point is if alonso is to go to the bloody RM, he must go at a value that is sufficient for us to bring in a stronger or equal replacement.

agreed Otsky... but the problem is nobody can really be sure if someone's really gonna be successful no matter how high profile he is... that's the problem with replacing a successful player like alonso...

Have to agree with you there.  I want him to stay but it looks like he is off but I really hope he is off with us holding the aces in regards to amount/player swap etc.

I am dissapointed in Rafa to an extent if Sabres post is totally accurate, but I have some dissapointed regarding Alonso as well as he has been an excellent player for us and always professional on and off the pitch,  but regarding the team from 2005 to now there is quite a difference in quality so dont really get his point regarding the squad differences.  Maybe he is hungry for a trophy but I honestly think we have as good a chance as Madrid to win a major trophy this season.  Barca wont roll over in the league and the CL is open to about eight clubs.  But nevertheless if we get Sneijder and Silva then I think we would be stronger

Selling Alonso at any price will prove to be a disaster.

I dont think it will if we get decent replacements.  I want him to stay but to be realistic it looks like he wants out and Rafa being Rafa wants the best price so he can improve the squad.  I think if RM dont agree to a good price then I can see him staying and being Alonso, playing well and acting professionally.

Although I dont like the situation it does look like we could be as strong or stronger, especially as we havent the money to buy Silva or someone as good and keep Alonso.  He wants out RM want him and we want to have the dosh to improve our squad.

AgreeD, a signing made by Benitez which turned worldclass . The best we can hope is that with 30million , surely someone
good will be signed to soften the blow .

go on then mate, go into some details......

am not saying selling him wouldnt be frustrating with us looking close to winning the league and the mancs losing two of their best players. But he wants to go by the sounds of things, and luckily for us that happens to be just after he has had his best season for us, a season where we smashed Real 5-0 over two legs. Lastly at a time when Real are paying silly money.
We would have let him go (mistakenly) last summer had someone bid what Rafa wanted which was believed to be less than half what we appear to be likely to get this summer.
I think now its best to take the money, then try and get in someone as early as possible.

If we get Sneijder as part of the deal and massive money then we will definately be stronger if that money brings in a top attacking player like Silva.

Will be sad to lose a great player and a great pro, but thats happened in the past and we have coped.

I'm sure that if you cast your mind back you will remember that I was very much against the sale last season, as well.

Alonso is vital to our preferred system. He is happy to sit in front of the back four and control the tempo and direction of the game. Alongside Mascherano, we have the best midfield pairing in top-level football, and to lose the best half of that is always going to impact upon a team. I have always said that he is our most important player given he system Rafa employs. Gerrard an Torres get the plaudits, but Alonso is the oil which allows the machine to work.

If he goes, you can kiss any thoughts of a Premier league title next season goodbye.

That is unless we sign about 4 World-Class players as replacements.

Here we go again to some on here the whole "crux" of whether or not we win the title next season rests on us keeping Alonso??....so we are a one man team are we?.....get real!....one player does not make LFC....and here's me thinking it was a team effort that won you trophies...Mmmm?.

 Lando,

There are tons of replacement in Alonso's class that can do the same work he does, its not the end of the world if he leaves, as someone stated on here (I think s@int) that Rafa has a good record of buying a top midfielder, so I wouldn't go on saying that losing Alonso will be a disaster!

But how can you keep a player who obviously wants to go and it is VERY obvious unfortunately. Get a good price and move on...but do it quickly to givec a chance of sourcing a replacement or spending the money wisely
