Yep that lad seemed to be in a typical basque wedding. The Cigar thingy is something we offer and even non smokers accept it (and then they give it to some non smoker).

That Cigar is given by the wedding man, in this case Alonso, to every man in the wedding personally. The woman gives another gift, usually some decorative thingy or something like that to all the women of the wedding. Yes, it's a bit silly and sexist

but that's how things are done here. Weddings here are a very special moment, and a expensive one these days (the free bar and all).

I'm glad that a Liverpool season ticket holder was invited, and that's a positive point for Alonso. Too bad he confirms what we already suspect.

I'm resigned to the fact he's off now. I explained a few ages back why I don't hold anything against him because over the last year he's proven himself to be a true professional and if he goes I'll wish him all the best and sing his name when I see him play.

I'm still clinging onto this false hope he stays though

something that is working against Alonso is that he has already proven that he is capable of playing (and playing well) while not being totally happy with his situation. He has shown to be a model pro, and there is no sign that he could cause any bust ups in the dressing room.

and the end of the day, the value of the offer from RM has to be GREATER THAN his value to the team in 09/10 PLUS what we could sell him for next summer.

WTF?? So he invites some bloke he met on the street but not his team mates, is that a Basque thing as well Sabre, to totally snub your work colleagues like that? I doubt it
