a top class player seems to be on his way out... our 3rd best player in the side... i expect Benitez to bring in a world class player now...
not the end of the world that Alonso is leaving but Benitez will certainly have to come up with a new plan for next season... heres for hoping it works out well... If Alonso does end up leaving for the reported sum, then money shouldnt be a problem this transfer window... Keane sold then Alonso, both out for big money, we havent spent anything in the january window, i expect us to have a fair bit to spend now...
No downing or Wheater or the likes please... time to get it right

Yes Nanny, it´s sad, but I gotta say it, the radios and papers here in Spain are hopping mad with the xabi signing, this is not the typical speculation.

What are Madrid going to do with all the central midfielders that they have

Surely they'll have to get rid of quite a few of them if they end up signing alonso... not like any of them are all that good or anything but still...

People shouldn't act so surprised. Guilleme Ballague said the other week he was certain Alonso would be announced a Madrid player soon. But I think he was meant to be presented this week initially. Anyway will be sad to see him go.

Absolutely incredible.... wtf is that all about ?!

Most of those above will obviously be sold. Especially after watching Barca lift the European Cup I hear Madrid are even more hungry now and they will spend a ridiculous amount of money this summer. I think they will still sign Ronaldo too but apparantly Perez doesnt want to make him transfer number 1 so it looks like he is just closing a deal Ramon Calderon set up before. He wants many keys signings and Xabi will probably be the first, David Villa next....

Any chance they may get rid of Higuain? or do you think any deal with Alonso could involve someone coming this way?

I'd rather get Robben than Higuain to be honest.... not many attacking names id pick from that Madrid side besides Robben and possibly Van Nistelrooy...

Sneijder and Van Der Vaart would make good backup... but thats pretty much it, and wouldnt want us spending big money on them... doubt theyd be willing to give up any of their good defenders but some of them would have made good signings (Ramos, Pepe, Marcelo.. )

believe it has come to this that we have to let him go. I hope we bring in someone proven. I will be very gutted if all we get is Barry and some 2nd rate players.

They have waaay too many players i've just noticed that... in pretty much every position.... they have a HUGE squad of high profile names who are all good players but nothing special (besides Robben who is outstanding and a couple of top class defenders)... Clubs like ManCity or Tottenham should be making bids to try and get some fo their better players if they are planning a mass clearout with their elections and all...

I would be chuffed if we got Sneijder, he is quality and way better than to be back up IMHO.

Each day something gets posted about Xabi, and each day you feel it gets more likely.

But if it means Rafa can then spend big on quality, there's nothing to say we wont improve the squad.

I'll wait to see who we buy before I'll say whether letting Xabi go is a bad move.

Much as i dont trust Rafa especially when it comes to transfer dealings, i think he cant possibly mess up our summer signings this time around as well... He has the money, or will have if or when Alonso is sold... and i expect us to be fighting it out with the big boys to sign some high profile players like Silva, Villa and Teves... We need better attacking quality regardless of how we setup or who we have playing where... and i expect us to address that before next season kicks off...

Have to say, Valencia is a good place to be looking for players as things stand... the likes of Joaquin, Silva, Villa, Mata, Vicente, Albiol, Miguel would all make good signings... all better than what we have in their positions...

The reports says maybe Negredo, but that´s speculation.
