In last year adverts and web site design Alonso wasn't there. There was Gerrard, Kuyt and Mascherano.

For me Alonso appearing in that advert means the club doesn't plan to sell him, and that reassures me.

In Madrid though they're pretty sure they'll get him.

I'd take all transfer talk with a pinch of salt. Real Madrid allow themselves to be linked with lots of top players only for them to usually end up with 1 or 2 superstars.

Rafa would probably only sell Alonso if the price was above £23m. If that meant we could afford to buy David Silva for the left wing and Barry as a cut price replacement then I'd possibly consider it.

Alonso as you can see is crucial to our midfield as I can't see anyone who is better then him this season, He is so intelligent and incredibly tough. He had causesd i believe 6 red cards from the opponents this season and he never chicken out on all tackles. It is just this season we see what our full team can do and we are so close to the top. Must at least see him out for another season. The question is (based on the rumor best case scenerio) are we stronger with Alonso gone which help fund Barry and Silva or maintain with Alonso while adding Tevez in both scenerio. The former choice looks good on paper and it does give us more option as we can play Tevez behind torres with Gerrard playing with Mascher and still have Barry as sub with silva on either flank. As for the later scenerio, i think we lack depth but have a stronger 11 if Gerrard plays on the right. Before I put down this suggestion, I didn't think i wanted to sell Alonso but after I read what I wrote, it is quite tempting to sell. Tough question really......

Real Madrid are confident of closing a £23 million deal for Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso.

Reds chief Rafa Benitez does not want to lose Alonso but knows he must sell to raise funds for all his summer targets and Alonso, who nearly left a year ago, is on Real’s wanted list.

Perez is hot favourite to return to the Bernabeu as president in the elections on June 17 and tried hard to sign the player five years ago.

Alonso’s agent Inaki Ibanez met the then Real supremo but no deal could be agreed and he eventually moved to Anfield from Real Sociedad for £10million. Yet Perez has remained a huge fan and knows Benitez will listen to offers if the price is right.

Liverpool say they do not want to do business and a spokesman insisted: “There has been no contact. The player is not for sale.”

'a spokesman insisted: “There has been no contact. The player is not for sale.” '

Isnt that the same as Rafa speaking?

If i´m not wrong it was said by "Diario As", so we can be calm because they are the biggest rubbish paper in all Europe.
