Xabi Alonso's agent has dismissed reports linking the Liverpool man with a move away from Anfield.

Recent reports have suggested cash-rich Manchester City and Arsenal were lining up moves for the Spanish schemer.

Alonso's future at Anfield has been the subject of speculation for some time after a move to Juventus failed to materialise last summer.

The 27-year-old has shrugged off the speculation and has arguably Liverpool's player of the season with a number of impressive performances.

Alonso's agent Ignacio Ibanez insists he has not heard anything from anyone and that the player is happy at Liverpool.

"I know nothing about these reports [of interest from City]," Ibanez told skysports.com.

"As Xabi has always said he is happy at Liverpool and focused on them."

We were never in doubt anyway Xabi. You don't need your agent to prove your love for our club. :p

ALONSO IM GOING NOWHERE.

By Richard Buxton - 16/05/2009 18:47

Xabi Alonso has spoken in depth about his past five years at Anfield and has insisted that he does not want to leave the club.

The Spain international was responding to speculation in the press linking him with a big-money move to Manchester City as well as reports that he was being lined up to join Real Madrid.

But the midfielder stated that he is only focused on playing for the Reds and that reports of a move elsewhere are wide of the mark.

"Time flies. I have already been here for five years, and it has gone so fast," he said.

"There have been ups and downs, but I have tried to enjoy and learn from every situation. I have developed into a much better player and person.

"A lot of things have changed for me during my time here and now I am looking forward to my sixth season as a Liverpool player."

Speaking of the rumours, he said: "I have seen this kind of situation so many times in my career. It is just rumours and you can't be talking about them because there is nothing more than this so far.

"It is more important at this time to think of how we can be even better and this means keeping the good basis that we have settled on this season and by trying to go a little bit further.

"And we need to start taking three points from games when we are not at our best, this will make a big difference at the end of a season."

Alonso enjoyed a return to form this season after a summer where he was the subject of a reported move to Juventus with Reds' manager Rafael Benitez eyeing up Aston Villa's Gareth Barry as his replacement. However the deal for Barry never materialised and Alonso retained his place in the squad that pressed Manchester United for the Barclays Premier League this season.

"It has been a complete season for me," admitted the 27-year-old.

"I have felt good and feel I have been playing well, too. I have been very happy and want to carry that through our final few games of the campaign.

"I finished last season well and was able to continue that with Spain at Euro 2008. That continued into this season and I feel I have been at a very good level for about 12 or so months now.

"Now I have to try to carry that on into next season. It's not about what you have done, but what you have to do."

Liverpool FC's Xabi Alonso will stay at Anfield, says Rafa Benitez

May 16 2009 by James Pearce, Liverpool Echo

RAFA BENITEZ insists Xabi Alonso will remain at Anfield beyond this summer.

The 27-year-old’s future has been the subject of much speculation in recent weeks with Arsenal, Manchester City and Real Madrid all linked with a move for the Spaniard.

Alonso, who is fit to return to the squad for tomorrow’s clash at West Brom, has enjoyed an impressive campaign at the heart of Liverpool’s midfield.

And the Reds boss has ruled out sacrificing him to fund any squad rebuilding.

“Xabi has been doing really well this season,” Benitez said.

“He’s a key player for us and with him being fit again it will give us a different option in midfield.

“Xabi has been talking about how he wants to stay here and we certainly want to keep him so I don’t think there will be any problems.”

I hope so. He is vital to the team so hopefully Rafa won't be temped to cash in on him.

Get in Xabi lad, hopefully all the speculation is dead now. I see Lucas hasn't committed yet....

Rumour from bbc rumour mill : Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso could be on his way to Real Madrid for £21m if Florentino Perez returns as club president. (Daily Star)

£21m is a lot of money - would you take this?

My answer would be no. There is nobody better to replace him in that role. Barry, while being better than Lucas is not better than alonso, and would be a step backwards imo. Going back through the midfielders thread, in most cases the only players that people thought were better than our Xabi are Xavi, Essien, Iniesta and Fabregas - and I don’t think we'd get any of them to replace him.

I don't want him to leave either but look at it from Rafas position where it will mean more money from him. He is probably thinking he can bring in Barry for half that and put the other half towards someone else.

I think if we get a bid high enough Rafa will accept it. As for the value itself I think it's a bit low. Id like to say 30Mil and I think Rafa could probably push Real that high but I think if it happens it will be for around 25 - 27Mil.

Xabi Alonso's agent admits Liverpool will decide the midfielder's future at the end of the season.

The Spanish international's future has been the subject of speculation in recent weeks with a number of clubs thought to be lining up summer moves for the player.

Real Madrid are thought to be leading the chase for Alonso with the 27-year-old thought to be one of presidental candidate Florentino Perez's top transfer targets if he gains control at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Alonso's agent Ignacio Ibanez has refused to confirm the player will remain at Anfield next season, admitting Liverpool will have the final say on any possible transfer.

"Many things could happen in the summer," Ibanez told the Daily Star.

"The first is to finish the season and after that to attend to other matters.

"Xabi has signed for three more years and his future depends on Liverpool."

Could just be usual agent talk but I don't like it.
