The Daily Star says Alonso is definitely on his way to the Emirates and the money will be used for the Barry transfer. Its also reported in the SSN Transfer Clockwatch.

I have some information again;
Arsenal's offer to Liverpool for Xabi is 5 million €'s below from Fenerbahçe's offer. And Arsenal is waiting for discount in Xabi's transfer fee.

I think Xabi's first prefer is to stay in Liverpool, second is to go to Arsenal, and the last prefer is to to go Fenerbahçe.

And I also think Liverpool first prefer is send Xabi to Fenerbahçe, second is to tell Xabi "Stay in Liverpool", and the last prefer is to send Xabi to Arsenal.

I am a Fenerbahçe fan, and in my opinion for equitable arrangement between Liverpool and Xabi, unfortunately Xabi will be stay in Liverpool.

It's hard to call buying a good player "daft", however we did pay over the odds (50%+)

Even if we sell Alonso for more than we pay for you know who, I still won't be that impressed as I don't reckon there's a lot between the two players other than one had a good-ish season and the other had a below par season. I certainly don't believe any difference between the two players will be the difference between winning and not winning the league

rafa wouldn't sell alonso to arsenal, id be very very surprised if this is true. Selling alonso for barry is ok, both good players, barry may offer more it also changes things around and brings new posibilities but... sellling alonso - bringing in barry losing what could be 8million and selling him to a rival club will not happen. in rafa we trust

I've been thinking about this Alonso saga under heavy sun, and within beads of sweat, 35º C hot, and some baths I've rethought all this -- it also helps to be completely isolated from the influence of this forum and the football press.

All we know for sure is that Alonso wants to stay, and that Rafa says that unless we got a very good price we'll keep Xabi. I don't think this must be a blow for Xabi, Rafa has already said no to a 14M offer, so that denial tells us in an implicit way that he's still important for the team -- we don't receive and deny 14M pound offers for our players every season right?. That also proves the message IS NOT that he's unwanted, if he was, he would have been sold for 14M.

So given the facts, Xabi must train hard, and fight for a place. I'm sure that with his quality he'll play a lot regardless Barry, or whoever comes. All he must do is focusing on giving his best.

Arsenal for a cut price deal? that's bóllocks IMHO. All we need to dismiss that news is Rafa's words "unless we receive a very good price" automatically discards the possibility of selling Alonso to a rival for a small price.

What it seems to be true is Arsenal's interest. I've known a girl who's the secretary of a Xabi Alonso's support firm here in San Sebastian. I started the conversation with her thinking they're fellow reds, but for my shame, I'm afraid they're more Alonso supporters. I might join the firm anyway, despite I didn't like much what I heard, because they get tickets from Xabi to get to Anfield.

She has confirmed that Alonso has the interest of Arsenal in both the club's and Alonso's agent table, that's the only useful info I got from her in a 45min footie chat that otherwise was forgettable :no

LIVERPOOL will not accept a cut price offer for Xabi Alonso.

Arsenal tried to take advantage of the Reds’ need to raise funds for the Gareth Barry transfer with an enquiry over the weekend.

But they were deterred from making a formal bid by Liverpool’s £18m valuation.

The Gunners’ valuation was nearer £12m, and while Arsene Wenger hopes Liverpool’s asking price will drop as the August 31 transfer deadline draws nearer, the Reds were adamant today that will not happen.

Alonso scored from the penalty spot in Saturday’s 4-0 romp at Ibrox and boss Rafa Benitez said: “Xabi played very well and he’s a very good player.

“I’m pleased about this. The value of Alonso in the transfer market will be high and we’re really pleased with him and don’t want him to go if it’s not a very good price.”

Liverpool´s direct competitor for 3rd spot climbing up the league is Arsenal so there is zippo logic selling Xabi to the gooners.

Lets hope we keep him and find the cash for Barry which would be LFC flexing its muscles for the first time in years.

We´re only going to regain top spot by having the strongest team and the strongest squad. The future is Red.

Wenger's a cheeky cun.t , 12 million for alonso would have done fine a couple of weeks back and now he's starting to show signs of returning to his previous , standards tell arsenal to go fuc.k themselves on budget buys somewhere else . We can and should keep xabi , unless we get a decent offer and also a decent replacement

Couldn't agree more. Anyone who won't sell us their best player for whatever we tell them the price is is a dwarf, Leprichaun, potato munching, squeeling little winging t0sser. It therefore follows as sure as eggs is eggs that anyone who shows an interest in one of our players (if Indeed Arsenal did) and doesn't instantly meet our valuation, is a cheeky cun.t.

To be perfectly honest if Ferguson comes tomorrow with a 22M offer, even with the right valuation, he'd still be a cheeky cúnt. We never like it when others touch our players.

IMHO Wenger's attitude is a bit cheeky, as in at the slighest sign of unsettledness of Alonso he's there to put an offer on the table. But as far as I can tell he has done so contacting the club directly, not the player first (as Ferguson has done many times) so in that sense, I cannot say Wenger has done the things badly.

In a way, this interest is good for ALonso, because at least it has broken the official silence of our club concerning Alonso, I think it might me comforting to him to know another top english club is interested on him -- which I guess it also means Wenger doesn't think Alonso can be nullified with a lil pressing of a striker. :;):

From Rafa's point of view this Arsenal interest is also good, because if he plans to sell Alonso, then details like several clubs wanting him (Juventus, Arsenal, Fenerbahce (this club is smaller)), and details like Spain winning the euro raise the value of the player.

So, the important thing here in which I hope we all agree, is that Xabi seems comitted to the club (and that's good), and that we are not that desperate financially to sell players on the cheap, which, at some point, was a real concern of mine.
