A cheeky offer from a former Chelsea boss for a Liverpool midfielder who is also attracting interest from Arsenal.

Inter Milan according to reports in the UK press are about to make a bid for Liverpool’s Spanish midfield star Alonso but not at the inflated price that Liverpool are demanding.Liverpool fresh from the controversial signing of Robbie Keane have admitted via their manager Rafa Benitez that they now have to sell in order to buy again, Benitez confirmed that if Liverpool want to buy Gareth Barry then some players will have to go and the only player that Liverpool will sell that can raise the required funds is Alonso.

Inter are prepared to bid but will offer nowhere near the amount that Liverpool want, Inter will pay no more than €12 million for a player who it seems is no longer wanted at Anfield, in fact some of the decisions of Benitez in the transfer market has left some pundits scratching their heads, and it seems that clubs around Europe are ready to take advantage of Liverpool’s strange transfer dealings.

Inter have quietly strengthened their side and will see Alonso as the final piece that Mourinho seeks in order to have his team ready for the upcoming season, Liverpool fans on the other hand must be dreading what is going to happen next.
Jose Mourinho is being quite wise here. He knows that Rafa wants cash and he knows that, for some reason, the Spanish boss is more than happy to offload Xabi. Therefore, the newly-installed Inter boss is putting a low bid in and hopes to get a bargain. There is also the interesting facet of this saga that includes Arsenal. Could Benitez be considering taking a smaller fee from the Serie A side over selling to a Premier League rival?

12million euros!!!!! £9.5million Wtf! I think it is time a line was drawn under all this cr@p. Keep Alonso, and miss out on Barry if we have to., but you don't sell players like Alonso for UNDER £10MILLION EVER.

Keep him.

Its time for Rafa to tell him hes the man for us this season and cool his interest or walk away from Barry. If nobody is willing to cough up the minerals for Xabi I'd rather he stay.

Rafa needs to make him feel wanted here, although it may be to late, and if he does do this, it maybe the kick up the ar.se Xabi needs.

He shouldnt go for no less than 16 million IMO, and considering what we've paid for Keane that it still fairly cheap.

Fenerbahce Now Favourites For Xabi Alonso?
Turkish giants Fenerbahce appear to have emerged as the favourites to sign Liverpool’s Spanish midfielder Xabi Alonso.

Liverpool have not given up on trying to take Aston Villa captain Gareth Barry to Anfield, despite Martin O’Neill’s announcement that they missed the deadline so the deal is dead.

However, if the Reds do intend to back their pursuit of Barry with a bid that Villa might just accept, they will still need to sell Xabi Alonso to help fund the purchase.

The Spaniard had seemed close to joining Juventus earlier in the summer but the Old Lady lost interest. Now reports suggest that there are three clubs potentially in the frame for him: Inter Milan, Arsenal and Fenerbahce.

With Inter having offered only £10million, some £5million below the bid from Juve which Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez turned down, it seems unlikely that Alonso will be heading to the San Siro.

Arsenal have been linked with the midfielder - though manager Arsene Wenger has not publicly declared an interest. A high-priced, high-earning established star such as Alonso does not readily fit the profile of a typical Wenger purchase, so unless the Gunners’ boss uncharacteristically decides he needs experience at any price, a bid acceptable to Liverpool from Ashburton Grove seems unlikely.

That leaves Fenerbahce - now managed by Alonso's successful former national team coach, Luis Aragones.

Aragones has dropped Mateja Kezman after signing Spanish star Daniel Guiza, with Kezman thought likely to leave the club imminently as a result, Paris St Germain being touted as favourites to sign the ex-Chelsea striker.

If that deal goes through, Aragones may be tempted to move for Alonso as he seeks to increase the Spanish influence on the Istanbul side.

Hmmm...i think Alonso is only worth about £10 million anyway, but at the same time i think Gareth Barry is seriously overpriced.

Never thought of that mick, seriously though 6.2 for the pair of them is silly money anyway i reckon, presuming they were both around 3 mill, that would be OTT in anyones books.

I didn't realise it was for them both..... no wonder I thought he was overpriced! :D

Seriously, I think a lot of the value we put on players depends on our own preferences and how much we "like" a particular player. I always liked Riise and thought he always tried his best and worked hard. I realise he had a couple of bad seasons, but then again so has Alonso and people are still defending him.

I certainly think Riise was worth much more than £4million, although I think he will find it much more difficult in Italy.

If we don't get a decent offer for maybe around 12 to 14 million than we should not sell alonso , give him at least one more season to step up , he has been showing signs as of late , good game in the euro's , last game against villareal , some good passes. We need a left winger and if alonso does not go than i don't think we will go for barry .

Stick this one to bed. Keep Xabi, f*ck Barry and his wankbandit boss off, and sign someone decent for the wing who Xabi can pick out with unerring accuracy in the Premiership-winning team next season.

Latest news! Xabi is 99% at FB. That 1% is his manager's fee. He is asking for 1.2 Million Pounds. FB offered 700k. This signing will not go back from here. Fb would not let a quality player like Xabi fly away for mere 500k difference.
