The Alonso Thread - hands in transfer request

Well, if we need the money only to buy Barry - then we're fekked.

Im hoping it's to get a decent winger/striker.

To be honest, I always thought Alonso never got "involved" enough in the middle of the pitch.
He's a good player, but I think his game is more suited to Spanish or Italian football.

£12M is a bit cheap though, hopefully in these alleged talks next week we can get nearer
the £14M mark.

But well, no problemo, it's always the same. If I agree, it's ok. If I disagree I'm biased.

Don't cry Sabre, I think my point was valid.  Bias and honesty are linked whatever way you want to look at it.  If you're biased it prevents you being honest, simple as that.  I don't blame you, if a player from my home town made it as an LFC player you can guarantee I'd be biased towards them.  Cue for calls to 'support my local team then'

I have a bias, in the sense that I'm Spaniard and I see football differently to what you lot see. For instance I don't fully endorse the "pass and go" concept of football, I like rotation, and things like that.

The RS bias is seen in the sense that I feel a bit of pride because of a town mate plays for the biggest club in Europe, and I sense it, but I'm perfectly capable of leaving that aside and talking about his footie

Should Rafa had done an Arbeloa and got, say, Garrido like Eriksson got for City, you'd change your opinion about my RS bias, as I don't like that player whatsoever. You'd hear that I hate how the player gives spaces to the defender and his lack of attitude in the pitch. And if he did that in Liverpool, I'd feel shame and I'd give him stick.

I like Alonso a lot, like Lando does, and I'm persistent at that, but RS is Alonso's past not present, and that's forgotten when I talk about footie.

I'll grant you one thing though, I talk too much about Alonso, so, it's Lando's or Bad Bob's turn now! :D

P.S. No worries John, you're one of my fav posters here. No much offence taken, but do not doubt that much about my ability to put feelings aside.  :rasp

I dont think that rating Alonso is biased as he is an excellent player.  I do think that Mash and Torres with SG's new role has clouded some people to how good Alonso is.  He has been injured and is the best passer at the club, what he does need is support and with the defence last season he hasnt had that.  I think it would be a loss to see him leave

I would be gutted if Alonso left, as I rate him as one of our top players.

(Did I say that okay Sabre?  And when can I expect that wire transfer to go through, mate? ??? :D )

Players sign new/extended deals so that when other teams come in for them the club can sell them for more money because of the length of the contract that they are on, thats the way it has always been but in this case it would seem the price is a bit lower than what most fans would value Alonso at, I for one have given up trying to second guess Rafa but I still trust him to know what what he is doing thats if it his choice but to me it looks like Rafa has been told he must sell to buy and judging by the players who are rumoured to be on their way out and the figures being quoted for them he could find himself with 30+ Million to spend from sales alone.

:D

In all seriousness, I do rate Xabi very highly despite recognizing that he has not been at his very best of late.  If he wants to go--which is contrary to everything I've read--so be it.  In that case I'd like to see us make a substantial profit on his transfer.  If he doesn't want to go and deals are being made to ship him out, I'd start to really wonder about what kind of financial situation we have behind the scenes because I don't think Rafa would be looking to sell him unless he needed the cash.

If we are truly negotiating with Juventus for Alonso at the moment, I would hope that we are also shopping him to some of the Spanish clubs as well.  There's nowt wrong with a bidding war for a player who will undoubtedly improve most sides in Europe.

So it looks like he is off. Still if Michael Carrick is worth 18Mil then Xabi must be worth the same at least. Especially given how Rafa was banging on about wanting 15mil for Crouchy a few weeks back.
My new blog for my upcoming holiday.
