Fantastic player, who has struggled a bit the last couple of seasons. Probably more due to tactical problems and insufficient quality elsewhere in the team than anything else.

If the £12million fee is right you are getting him cheap, his value should be around £14/15million mark.

If you can get him paired with Sissoko and the right quality in front of them then you will have a great set up.

Certainly I think the slower and more tactical game in Italy will suit him.

Juventus have reportedly offered 12 million pounds for the Spain international - four million pounds below Liverpool's valuation - but it is believed a deal will soon be concluded, with Alonso keen to play in Italy.

I doubt it. :glare:

Italian football is so boring, that I wouldn't bother to download a single game of Xabi to see how's he doing there

With 12 Million pounds we could not go and sign a great player could we? Then, why should we sell at that price, a little more expensive than SIssoko?

If that's so, we're truly and really fúcked, because it means we have massive need to sell.

i would be gutted if he left to be honest.

I think we need four strong midfielders regardless of position and these could be Alonso, Mash,barry and Gerrard. I can see Barry spending some time on the left especially if supported by an attacking left back. I also see the Deggen signing as good as I think we have been lacking in attacking on the flanks and this then means that midfielders target our midfield especially alonso as you cannot afford to give him time and space. Mash protects the back excellently and now its the time for the defence to help out in midfield by taking teams out wide so a player like Alonso can exploit the time and options available to him. Mash has his role and SG has his freedom but lack of fluidity in attack means that Alonso does get swamped at times. Just look at games when he has been given time and study his passing and influence on the game, with Barry out left and even if we dont get somebody else on the right we have Babel, and with good support from the right and left back then teams will have to stretch out but you obviously cant ignore SG and Torres so there will be gaps and Alonso is as good as anybody to ping passes about,

Thats why I want him to stay, his passing his work rate and professionalism.

To answer the Juventus guy, If I was a Juve fan of course I would want him especially with Momo marauding about in support, they are a good partnership but hopefully you wont get him

I would be pretty sad to see him leave.

Xabi is a great player, and a nice lad.

He is a great passer of the ball and has good vision to spread the play and also can help dictate the pace of the game. He linked up very well with Gerrard, and would always be in my first choice 11 for Liverpool alongside Masherano and Stevie G

Anything under £15million is a bargain for Juve.

If Rafa sticks with this formation (4-2-3-1) then I can see a position available for Alonso. Even though he form has been poor for a long time now, there is always hope that he'll regain it. Though I've been one of his biggest critics and IMO rightly justified I'd be content with him staying even if we sign Barry. As Rafa loves to say Barry will give us "options", of course he can play LB, CM and possibly LW which I think is the position Rafa would deploy Barry in. If Alonso struggles with injuries and form etc then Barry can come in and sit next to Mascha.

If Rafa reverts back to the old 4-4-2 then I wouldnt see the need to keep Xabi and would think about selling around the 15 million mark or more. For me Alonso wont be able to hold down his place in a flat four midfield regardless of whether we sign Barry or not. Gerrard and Mascha in the center with possibly Barry or even Lucas (who hast impressed me either) will give us options still.

Even if Rafa stuck Gerrard out wide, Mascha and Alonso through the center are way to defensive and as we've seen with this before we lack creativity and and flair through the middle. With a flat four pushed on higher up the field its paramount for me you need someone he can burst through the middle snd join the attack, neither Alonso or Mascha do this well enough.

Which is why I have no problem with them teaming up together further back in a 4-2-3-1 formation. This formation for me allows us to get the best out of our better players ala Mascha, Alonso, Gerrard and Torres. That central quartet isnt the problem though its the wide areas that are, I cant see Barry offering Ronaldoesk opions out wide but he does have a good engine, can whip in a cross or two and has a decent shot, while maintaining a good level of defensive duties too. Exactly the kind of player Rafa likes.

In saying that though, who could guarentee Rafa to stick with one formation throughout the course of a season, it will be like rotations in formations instead, and the players wont no whetehr their coming or going if hes gonna chop and change personel and formations around like a mad man.

Sissoko had a very poor half season with us, and for some reason was written off by most fans....... we do have Mascherano

I think Sissoko was a top player who when played in his best position as a midfield destroyer had no equal, but again because we lack creative quality in other areas we needed more from midfield than "just" a destroyer.

Selling Alonso to buy Barry is a step backwards IMO, have we now become a selling club?

Rafa should be able to keep Xabi and also buy barry if he wishes.

Feckin gutted if xabi goes, i like Barry i think he's a good player,but is he better than what we've already got ,don't think so . Selling our better players is not good news , could all be italian tabloid poo mind you.

Igor we really missed him last season when he was injured as soon as he was back fit and playing regulary we went on about a 10 game unbeaten run, and that was because he was back in the team.

Thank you.I think that Sissoko in his role is a fantastic player,one of best in Europe.The choice for you is justified because Mascherano also is nice,although i prefer Mohamed.For Alonso,instead,i think that he is useful for the tattics of Juventus team.The next year we want to return at big levels,and we need of champ as Alonso.Liverpool is a big team and if it has playing for a lot of years with Xabi we can staying quiet

Let's not build Xabi up into something he's not here.

He had a fantastic first season and a good second season. For the last 2 seasons he has been dreadfully inconsistent, admittedly partly due to injuries, but not completely.

A great passer of the ball, but not when he's put under pressure, which is what teams do to him in the premier league. Blame it on Rafa's system, blame it on injuries, blame it on his team mates, blame it on the fu.ckin boogey, the fact is he's not contributing enough to the team and hasn't done for a long time.

In a nutshell he is a good footballer who for whatever reason is stagnating at this club rather than improving. It is best for him and LFC if he moves on, but admittedly I think he is worth around 14-15 million rather than the 12 offered. We need to play hardball with Juve here.

Unfortunately, regardless of whether he's been off form or not this is the future under these two idiots whereby we will need to sell top players.

We paid 10 for him and had to give RS another 2 million after ex amount of appearences so if we sell him for 12 million, we havent made any profit
