Van nistelrooy  anyone?

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Former Man United forward Ruud van Nistelrooy is close to agreeing a six-month loan move to Liverpool, according to reports on Wednesday.

The Real Madrid and Holland international is out of favour at the Bernabeu and with Rafa Benitez seeking cover for Fernando Torres up-front, van Nistelrooy has been heavily linked with a return to the Premier League.

The 33 year old is keen to get regular football ahead of next summer's World Cup.

Van Nistelrooy made his debut for the Mancs against Liverpool in 2001 and went on to score 150 goals in just 219 appearances for Ferguson's team. He joined Real Madrid in summer 2006 where he has an equally impressive scoring record, with 46 goals in 68 appearances.

A move to Anfield would represent an uncanny resemblance to United's signing of former Liverpool forward Michael Owen in the summer. In 2002/03 both players finished as top scorers for their respective clubs, 6 years later they could be playing at opposite ends of the old East Lancs Road.

*****************

Strange one this but the story seems to have merit. How do we feel about Ruud playing for us?

Who is going to put the crosses into the six yard box for the horse to tap in? Would you play both him and Torres together? It would be as weird to see the horse in our red shirt as it is to see Owen in their's. As for him being a former manc, it isn't the first time and won't be the last. As long as he adds something to the side (goals) then I don't care if he comes from Mars or shagged all of yours' other halves! (watch this space :D )

But doesn't it speak volumes we're after a 33 year old who has to be on the decline in terms of fitness and sharpness. Maybe he'll be a better player with a better brain and more experience, but if this isn't more than a six month loan it won't impact on a title challenge unless we sign him and then you'll wonder if a 33 come 34 year old will be a horse or donkey that should be put out to pasture. If I recall correctly he can play in the Europa League, not that I would bother playing a player past 30 in such a pointless competition when we need to focus on getting into the Champions League - or in my opinion, hitting title winning form to prove we can

I'd take him... to be honest id rather have him on loan and send him back if it doesnt work out too well.. Spend big next summer on a second striker who can play the upfront role and try to adjust the squad a little... new manager with new ideas and all that but for now i think a loan move wouldnt be a bad option for us...

And/or what money we have has been spent on luxuries which we can't afford or really aren't luxuries at all. We spent £39m on players in the summer, that's not quite "no money". The problem is we bought two players for the first team and a back-up CB, the only one who has proved worth what we paid for him is the back-up CB. The RB was over-priced and is dodgy defensively, Rafa won't play the £20m CM enough for the jury even to go off and deliberate over

well i dont think age will be an issue (Fowler, Gary Mc). he could be a signing that turns our season around. id like to have him. always rated him even when he played for the scums. he, Alan Smith and Poborsky were the only 3 scums who ever got my respect. having said that, i would love to see him score a penalty against manure and celebrate in this manner :D

Hmmmm...loan or not. Will Benitez even bother to play him?

Personally, I think he's well past his sell by date.

We can buy as many experienced strikers as we can but as longs as we have Lucas alongside Masch...we will win f@ck all. Strikers need service to score their goals and there is only one Fernando Torres in the world.

Daft reply.
Just because you admire players with another club doesn't mean you're not a "proper" Liverpool fan...

When is the last time he played first team football ? Does he still know where the goal is ? What would be the point in taking him if he's neither playing nor scoring regularly - he could be rusty; he's lost pace; he couldn't ever be even a temporary replacement for Torres 'cos he never played that lone striker role....too many negatives for my vote...
