Not sure. From what I read the infection spread quickly because it was misdiagnosed and not treated early enough.

we had an internal notification about this bug, and it clearly said that it was more virulent as the disease spread before the surgeons eyes. that apparantly has been unseen before with this disease.

agreed SCS that it is not new, but the spread pattern is definately new, and therefore the bug may have mutated into something more aggressive

The premier league is facing ‘a new horror’ from a flesh eating american owners which kill football clubs just within four hours of them arriving clubs with chairmen pains.

Liverpool FC, 117, had been given for sale signs for what doctors thought was lack of suitable funds.

But when it was realised that it had the infection necrotising american bastards bankers amputated its bank account in a bid to save it.

etc, etc, etc....

The spread pattern isn't new mate.

It's a horrible disease but exceedingly rare and this is nothing more than a classic case of it.

Antibiotics do very little, you basically just have to cut out the infected tissue.  Because it's so rare, by the time doctors diagnose it (most of them will never have seen it before), you need an operation and you're at significant risk of death.  Trouble is that in it's early stages you basically can't differentiate it from normal skin infections (cellulitis).  It's only when it starts spreading that alarm bells ring.

Basically, you're fu.cked if you get it.

Bad luck

Nah, things like surgery or trauma are the main things.  Any break in the skin can cause infection to be introduced though whether it be an insect bite, grazed knee playing football etc etc.  The bad luck is picking up one of the rare bacteria that cause this.  Also it's more likely to be fatal if your immune system is already suppressed - ie you have cancer, diabetes, are on chemo...

It's bad news though.

you naturally have streptococcus living happily in the back of your throat. the problem is when it mutates. im not sure of the mechanisms involved, but when that happens all hell breaks loose.

to answer SCS etc. this particular case has been noted as the fastest case of necrotising faciitus ever in the UK, which adds strength to the notion flying around the NHS at present, as a more unique case of the disease

Some woman said on there that her son got an absess in his mouth and it got infected with that bacteria, and in a few days it had eaten him down to his torso!
Thats crazy....imagine lying in hospital watching your flesh get eaten away and no one being able to help! :no

If I ever get told I have that I'll be out the window head first!  :sniffle
