Yesterday complained when he puts a game in the box it just shows a message "open tray"..

What is the problem and what  have I got to do to fix it?

Is this message where he can normally click "Play Game" or something of that ilk?

I have the same trouble with my CoD 4 disc. I have to clean the disc and then put it back in.....failing that, just keep opening and closing the tray until it reads the disc.

Usually the game will load after reading disc but this just says open tray...it doesn't seem to be a clean disc issue

I have that message, all though clean disc, then open and close tray a few times normally cures. Is it all games or just one?

Sounds like it has had it mate. It's time to get out the bath towels, turn it on, wrap it up, wait for it to overheat, bring up the red ring of death and send the bugger back for repair dude. They're not particularly durable. Mine has been good as gold for 3 years but i've got mates who have been through 3 consoles /repairs in the same period. The Elites are supposed to be indestructible but I can't understand why they can't make em all like it.

Try a CD/DVD lens cleaner that should solve it, if not you have two options. 1) Buy a replacement CD Drive for about £25 or 2) Hopefully it is still under warranty so send it back to Microsoft and get them to replace it, they are actually getting pretty quick at solving problems with them lately, a mate of mine had the Red Light, sent it back and got a brand new one within 3 days !

Same thing happened to my kids. They also got theres at christmas. We tried a laser cleaner which, after several goes, eventually worked or one that has done the trick just lately is breathing on the disc and popping it straight into the tray. Worked so far.

yep, the old "red ring of death" comes for them all. My first went last year, dont even think Id had er 2 years. There are ways to get it to kick on for a bit, like wrapping a towel round the sodden thing but once it starts messin around, its time to get down to Argos!

Yep mine did the same. best thing to do is to get a replacement xbox. the games that would come up with this message on my old xbox simply dont anymore. it isn't the disc thats the problem, its the xbox. i had my xbox for about 2 years, but the new build is much better built so i hope it will last longer without these niggling problems.

I had the same error, this was after I had sent my XBOX in for a first repair in October.  Back in March (I think) I got the Open Tray error.  I called XBOX support and they had a box and labels sent to me within 3 days.  I got the XBOX back a week later fully repaired, free of charge, no shipping charges etc.

While I do hate that I've had to send it in twice for repairs, I am very satisfied with the customer support and the fact that they repair it free of charge without any hassle.

Sidenote, I live in the states, I don't know if there is a repair center in the UK or not, so it might take a while for a repair, I imagine they'd have to have a repair center somewhere in Europe though.
