pope john paul II must have known this and supported the cover up. some think him a great man but i think he is similar to a child abuser.

in my country, our last taoseach(prime minister) did a deal to cap the financial penalty the child f*ckers association have to pay and as a result the taxpayer has to pay a billion euro to the victims. if you look at the size of the population, that would be live british taxpayers having to pay 15 billion to victims of priests.

why am I paying somebody money because a priest raped them? at least the church will be okay :angry:

Priests have been abusing(physical and sexually) children for decades!Hundreds of kids all over the country suffered!Most were the vulneravble ie orphans or in some cases had learning difficulties.
It was known about in the church.When it came to light in a lot of different cases the powers that be in the church moved priests to other churches where they done the same all over again.They kept it covered up and never called the police!
They talked victims and families of victims out of talking to police to keep the churches "good name"

Basically its been going on for a long long time,no one will ever know how many kids suffered,a lot have kept quiet,others have killed themselves in later life!

The church itself is as guilty as the abusers in my eyes,they knew innocent children were being beaten and raped regularly and done fuc'k all about it!

The catholic church in ireland has been in recline for 20 yrs.the churches are full of the elderly and the Polish.nobody I know goes to church.

Yes, I've watched the news (very rarely do I ever) but not once did I even say it's acceptable. But where in any religion does it say that this sort of thing is acceptable? I challenge you to find that written in any book. The point I was making is why did you say the religion is a disgrace, when it's got nothing to do with the religion itself?

The thing is, it's been no real secret. Catholic run establishments, especially in the south, have had some notorious and particularly harrowing tales about them, of which none of them I doubt would be true. Abuse is one thing, but I have stories of nuns getting rid of the unwanted babies that have resulted from the abuse. Details which I just don't want to write beause they are just too disgusting to even think about. It's just a shame that these scum decide to use the cloth as a guise to carry out these things. It's an easy cover. What is really inexcusable, however, is the fact that certain factions in the Church would have known about these things, and swept it under the carpet. They are as culpapble as any. But if they really do believe in their faith, then maybe there is a nasty fate waiting for them on the other side. I can only hope so.

Fair enough lad,some good points but to me the priests and clergy that convey a religion to people are in a way the religion(at very least a huge part of it).Its those that bring it to people and those that people look to for help and guidance in hard times!People see them as a physical link to god and sadly look up to and respect them..For what a fu,cking dog collar??

I stand by what I said its a disgrace of a religion.How can it be anything else?Look at what happened.Kids were getting brutally raped,beaten and pshycologically tortured for years.It was known about and covered up.The catholic church which lets face it is in itself the reigion let it happen.Wh? To save its own face.Its an absolute disgrace and cannot be defended,the religion and all that carry it are a joke..hypocrites!

Tell me this..If you had a kid and needed a babysitter and your parish priest offered to babysit some night would you let him??

In all walks of life there are good and bad people.
Priests are still human and to err is human and.

I'm in no way advocating anything, just saying, leave the church alone, it's not the religion, its the people.

The whole world has gone mad.
anyone read about the 13 yr old who killed some 17 year old by knifing him in the neck?!?!

And due to his age they cannot print his picture. I say if you do that, the picture is there for all to see.

So people who are of the Catholic faith are a disgrace and a joke? I'd be careful about how you put those words into context. This is like saying that people of Muslim faith are a disgrace and a joke because a minority of them blow themselves - along with other people - up in the name of their faith.
