I live over the hills from Ledbury. It is a typical market town with a bit of a reputation. It is cider country which brings its own set of problems! There are some hard farmer types who see having a brawl as part of a good night out. Some of the folk of Ledbury and its environs can be a touch backwards with regards to ideas like equality, sexism, racism, homosexuality etc.. I have no doubt whatsoever that in painting this pub pink they were questioning the landlord's sexuality which would have brought untold hilarity to the culprits. Ledbury is a beautiful black and white town and if any of you get the chance to visit I recommend it. This painted pink pub is actually in a really historical medieval lane. The town is very close to Eastnor Castle which holds the rather excellent Big Chill festival in August. The landlord seemed to take it rather well I must say, which sums up this frankly quite amusing prank.
