Whats the difference between the orange user names and the green ones ? Obviously red are mods .

orange old skool
red teachers

Orange means you are an elite member. Green means you are not. To be considered for elite membership you have to have made over 100 posts I think. Basically you can ask one of the mods to be considered by PM and we'll pass the request onto Chris (LFC). Once you are an elite member it means you can post in the advanced section of the forum.

Who cares what colour your username is....if the quality of your input is good enough, it wouldn't matter if it were sky-blue pink!

I don't think Red was telling you off for asking, rather exclaiming how unimportant is your username colour.

I asked my "orange" status when I had 200 posts or something, in I think I sent a PM to Jonnymac and in two days or so they put me orange.

I'm pretty sure that if you ask they'll give you that status, but the only difference is being able to talk in the advanced section, which is not used much these days. The original idea of that section was a more calm approach to discussions because with newbies, more wums we used to have, etc, not always it was possible that in the normal section.

You first have to collect a petition of 100 signatures from fellow Newkitters in support of your application. Then you will need to endure a grueling 2-week boot camp to ensure that you have the physical and mental stamina required for elite membership status. Then, you will need to get one of the Mods (not me!) to agree to act as your spirit guide/sensai through the 18-month long "accolyte stage." Once this is complete and, of course, after you've done the mandatory two years of volunteer service in an Amazonian leper colony, you'll need to ask Supersub very nicely if you might become an elite member (I'd bake him cupcakes).

Back in the days when Newbies were the most likely trouble-makers and everyone else pretty much got along. Oh the memories.
