I don't play many games on Live but I must add Misty and Emerlad to my friends list and maybe we can get a few games of FIFA going?

At the moment I game on a 22 inch CRT monitor but the missus and I are going to splash out on a 40 inch 1080 tv in the post Xmas sales.

It must be 1080 and a grand (euros) in price max, and I'm looking at a few Samsungs (the LE model- I think its series 4). What TVs have people here and how do they rate them?

Will accept that request as soon as I go on the xbox.

As for TV's, the Samsung models are really nice indeed, and you can't go wrong with them no matter which one you buy. You'll be chuffed with one. In fact, most of the top brands are seriously excellent, and if I were you, I'd just go for the one you can get the cheapest, even if it is an older model. I play my 360 on a wee 26" LCD. It's not a big make or anything, but I just bought it so I could play the games in HD. It's made by Acoustic Solutions and it does the job. I got it a year ago for 260 quid, and it's features are very sparse indeed. Although saying that, when I was in the store and it was on the shelve playing beside the big swanky brands like Sony and Samsung models, the picture quality is what I was looking at, and to me, I could tell no difference at all, even though the other sets were about 200+ quid more expensive, and that's what sold it for me. The thing is, if you're wanting to run a blu ray or use your screen for a monitor, then 1080p should be a must. However, the vast majority of Xbox and PS3 games don't even run at 1080i even though it will state on the box that they do, or some even say 1080p. The truth is, most games on the consoles will only run at around 900x600 or just above it. Sony and MS lie.

I have a 40" Samsung le40md86bd and I have been delighted with it. I set it up using the details from the  avforums and both picture and sound have been excellent.

Emerald and JBG, want in on the FIFA tournament?  That would make it 7  players, and one more for an 8th and it would be perfect!!

Do you guys use component, HDMi or VGA cables to connect to your HDTV?

My Xbox doesn't have HDMI (indeed most older ones don't) and I hear the picture quality is better over VGA than component as component cannot upscale to 1080p.

Definitely go for a 1080p whoever is thinking of buying a HDTV now.

While it is very true that the Xbox and Playstation normally use 720p (or even slightly lower) and broadcast HD is still only 720p (at best) both make a decent attempt at upscaling games to 1080p and Blu Ray is 1080p.

We'll probably see a new console (probably from Microsoft) in 2 years time and that will definitely be 1080p native so I think getting a 1080p now is the best way to future proof yourself, especially seeing that 2000+p HDTVs are probably at least five years away from being mainstream.

You won't notice the difference between 1080i and 1080p unless you get a 42"+ TV, I connect with VGA and I think it looks slightly sharper than component, the thing is that the differences between connections (VGA an HDMI) are so minimal it's really not worth worrying about imo, I like VGA cos you can run it through either TV or PC monitor and also run the sound seperate through the output of my choice :)

Nah mate, havent played it for a while, it was a 'backup' and since everyone has been getting banned I have stopped playing 'backups'  :;):

Might buy it though if people are still playing it online  ???
