Won €50 in a crossword competition :D  and received the cheque in the post yesterday so treated myself to FIFA 08. Football games are not really my kind of thing - the last FIFA I got was 2000 and the last football game (other than the XBLA Sensible Soccer) I got was PES 6 which came free with my Xbox360.

Anyway, give me a few days to get the hang of it before you can all whoop my candyass on Live!

Hard to think we all had one of those 20 years ago. Remember that even they had a retro form of RROD, only you fixed it by blowing into the cartridge. I found that breathing warm breath into them for a bit and then pushing the cart up and down on the ejector rapidly done the trick. Did you know a remake of the same original Punch Out is being made for the Wii? It looks class too. Just like the original, only with nice graphics. Same character and all, only Mike Tyson isn't in it. I couldn't beat that b@stard anyway, so it doesn't matter. That's another thing about games back then. They were rock hard. I recently played the original NES Punch Out and I still can't get past Soda Popinski. It's still a brilliant and addictive game that.

Super Punch Out on the SNES was also mint as well, I dont think it gets enough credit cos it wasnt far off the original  :;):

I've had Fifa a week and I still haven't won a cup. I've been cracking away at the FA on Professional difficulty, and it's fookin rock hard. Chelsea are just the ultimate b@stards that I've played so far. I can't get in behind them and it's taken me about 8 attempts to even score against them. I missed 3 pens against them and they always knick a scrappy 1-nil. Wouldn't be like them, would it? So, a quick tampering with the tactics and formations and I reverted to flooding the middle of the pitch and keeping Nando up front on his own. It worked, but only after about three cracks at them with the 4-5-1 set up with Kuyt out wide right and either Riera or Babel in an advanced wide position acting as a support striker. I just beat them 2-0 for the first time. :D

I've noticed it seems to be Gerrard and Torres that have massive impacts by either scoring or setting up goals in all the games I've played. Exactly how we are, really. Very realistic. Can't get enough of this game, absolutely awesome. It'll go underrated, though, because it's Fifa and an EA title. They don't normally do awesome, but by f'ck, they've done it with this title.

Played Neil this morning before work he won 2-1 well done mate, it was a good game end to end stuff i could have scored 3 with babel just like Neil could have clear cut but he cant finish and Keane's not even worth having on the pitch.

Played it tonight for the first time round my mates house, I scored and for some weird reason Agger got a straight red card, WTF, for no reason at all, then later the same thing happened with Kuyt but he got a yellow ???

TBH, I was lucky to win yesterdays game, I thought you had the better chances. I would of given you a replay but I was going away (to watch the Last Shadow Puppets in Wolverhampton). I look forward to locking horns with you again though.

They over-do the advantage. Sometimes they allow advantage, but then the ball doesn't go out of play for ages. Eventually, when it does, a player is carded. It's one of the few niggles I have with the game, the other being the crossing, which isn't as good as last years - the ball often goes behind the attacking strikers, leaving an easy clearance for the defenders.

The problem with some of the so called phantom yellow and red cards in Fifa that some of you are having can seem a bit odd, but there is a simple reason for it. Sometimes when you are frantically trying to defend, depending on what difficulty Fifa says you should be playing on, the cursor or player change is sometimes erratic if you aren't paying attention. Normally when you're panicked to tackle a player advancing on the edge of the box. Sometimes the cursor will jump to a player behind the play, and if you press the slide tackle button, your player will break a opposition player off the ball. The ref never misses this, and doing so is a straight red even if you didn't mean it or weren't aware, so be careful and make sure you're in control of the nearest player to the ball first before tackling. Often refs give advantage, and the play goes on. You forget what player committed the foul and that he's already on a yellow in the ref's mind. So you make another tackle with him and break a player. The ref stops play, adds the two yellows, and gives a red, and you're left thinking what for. They have overdone it with the advantage thing, but it has its pro's and con's and is a minor quibble with what is otherwise an almost flawless game of football.
