Every time I play Fifa, it just gets better and better. You start to notice more the more you play. There does seem to be a glitch though. I was playing online last night, I was Spain and playing against England. I'd come from behind to make it 2-2 (both goals from Torres) and I was running the flat-footed England defence ragged with my pace, a win seemed inevitable. The other lad then made 3 substitutions, but when they came on, they were all invisible. It was like trying to fight with one hand tied behind your back. I kept getting tackle by "ghosts" when I thought I had plenty of time on the ball. I subsequently just hoofed up-field everytime my defenders had the ball. I managed to hang on until penalties and won in sudden death, despie three of the penalty takers being invisible (I even saves one of theirs - Joe Cole booted it right down the centre). Has anyone else had this happen?

Based on the demo, I have to agree. It feels awful - it doesn't respond to your controls and passes go completely the wrong way to where you intend them to. We have a PS2 in work with Pro Evo 2008 on it and I tell you what, its a much, much better game.

I haven't bought a Fifa game since Road to World Cup '98 but I think i'm gonna get it this year unless Konami pull out King Kong-sized rabbit outta the hat and tell us the demo was a really, really early build and release a working game. Which is unlikely to happen.

On an aside, i'm on a bit of an MGS thing - just playing through MGS3. MGS4 and MGS Portable Ops - MGS4 is absolutely brilliant!

Get yourself Fifa 09. It may seem dodgy at first, but have faith. I've been a PES player for over 10 years now, and I can tell you that having spent a few days playing Fifa 09, that it's not only surpassed any PES game, but it's blowing them all clean out of the water. Nothing is touching this game. Even if Konami build a new engine, it still won't get close. The attention to detail in the game is incredible and it creates patterns of play that you only see in the real thing. I can't praise it enough. It's getting good reviews, but trust me, even though the reviews are good, they still aren't scoring the game highly enough. I wouldn't care if there was no other football sim out for another 2 years, because this game has so much depth to it, there wouldn't need to be. The game will never get the praise because it's made by EA and it's a Fifa title, which seems to be clouding too many people's judgements. The game is awesome.

it seems all the pro evo fold have switched over this year. think il still wait for it tho before I switch my alliances to the old enemy! From what I hear Ronaldinho is the best player in Fifa so I see its still not going for "realism" :D Either that or the Fifa boys ignored the extra 2 stone he was carrying when he called in to do the motion capture!

I just saw a trailer for Pro and this year they have the rights to the champions league licience, so maybe that gives them rights to all the clubs featured in it also (please God im so sick of the garbage LFC kits they vomit out every year)

Fifa 09 is phenomenal imo. The control and movement of the players is just so unbelievably good. I still cant get my head around how real it feels.

Ronaldinho certainly isn't the best player in the game. One of the most skillful, but best...no. The amazing thing about this new Fifa is that it does things in such a realistic way, that each player can stamp their authority on the game depending on the pattern of play. You will find that players act and do things as you'd expect them to in real games. Players now feel unique and different. For example Gerrard will often put in a good tackle and take the ball clean and then set up a counter attack. If you find the space to hit one with him, he often rifles it. Players are rated by their overall play, like passes completed, tackles made, ground covered etc etc. Another incredible thing I noticed in this game is that you will notice players gaining more and more confidence. It's a subtle thing, but when you've just scored and start passing it about without the CPU getting near the ball, you'll notice a spring in the step of players. They act quicker and control the ball better, turn sharper, and passes become more accurate and crisp. It's an amazing thing to feel when playing the game as it's never been done in any other sports sim. The opposite is when players are pressed, they are slower to react, and then their passes will go astray. Just like the real thing. This game has not just taken over PES, it's stomping all over it. Sorry to say, and I hope I'm wrong, because PES made EA make this game into what it is, but I seriously cannot see a PES game ever getting close to what EA have done with this game. It could be game over for them now. It really doesn't matter, and I couldn't really care so long as EA continue to listen to the fans and tweak and improve. The best football game ever created, and you better believe it.

As for the CL license in Pro, don't let that suck you in. It's a joke lisence. Not every team is licensed, and Anfield isn't even in the game. Sad thing is, that these jokers now have the CL license for four years now. It's a sad waste of a good competition. They should just give up the ghost and give it to EA to give it the proper potential it deserves.

Konami have been doing that for a few years now. I think it first featured in PES6. Some sort of "emotion" engine at work me thinks.

Anyway, I see plenty have bought the new Fifa, so who's up for a game? I'll play anyone, I'm not that good (6 wins, 5 defeats). I'm on Xbox 360 - gamertag NiftyNeil. I've already posted that once and nobody's took me on. All chicken eh??  ???

I think we're all still getting to grips with it mate. I'll play you when i feel ready to give you a good game. At the moment im finding me feet with the sheer depth of the game. Im impressed by it - perhaps a bit overwhelmed...even though there are some aspects that clearly havn't been altered from last years version, and the whole idea of displaying headlines attributed to THAT rag in the game pi55es me off big time...

Overall it is a very good game of footy - just not reached the stage where i enjoy it for the potential it has (YET) as much as i should be doing. That will come with effort put in.
