You can buy one when you here mate. The oyster card is valid for all tubes and buses, don't know how long you plan to stay , probably best to ask for the pre-pay as opposed to the "weekly" . Pre-pay means you bung as much money as you think you'll need onto the card, bus journeys cost about £1, tubes vary on the length of the journey.

how much does the shortest journey, i.e. the cheapest possible fare, on the tube cost these days, out of interest?

Graham I haven't lived there for a couple of years but I would think you can buy a day pass, or a week one if that's what you need. So made up are they that somebody actually wants to pay as opposed to vaulting over the barriers in their puffa jackets (they wear these regardles of the temperature) that from what I remember they're always willing to accomodate you. Failing that just get a one day travelcard which covers you for the bus and all that as well. Don't also forget that the tube mab bares no resemblence to the actual scale of London which is quite small in the centre. Print yourself off a couple of maps off the net and you'll find that rather than going up and down escalators and queueing up on platforms, you're often better off just walking. You really can walk from Covent Garden, through Leicester Square and onto Piccadilly circus in about three minutes (I might be slightly stretching it but it's not much longer) and you get to see a whole lot more things that you do on the tube.

You'll have a great time, all the shows are fecking excellent. I've seen a few where I've been dragged along and didn't fancy it at all, and not a single one has been anything other than brilliant. I think my favourite was Oliver with Barry Humphries playing Fagin, fecking unbelieveable.

If you're on one of those city breaks Graham and are staying central, you should definately consider just walking around the city. You can always catch a rickshaw back to the Hotel which is different and nice, and central London is absolutely safe as houses no matter what time of night you wander about. I'm back myself for a couple of weeks on August 7th and can't wait. It's a bit of a sh!thole but a fecking brilliant city IMHO.

You might find this useful Graham, it's got info on oyster cards.

London transport.

If you're in Russel Square you're about a 5 mins stroll from the British Museum, 15 mins from Covent Garden. I think Dirty Dancing is at the Aldwych Theater just south of Covent Garden, 15-20mins stroll from Russell Square.

About £1.50 with an oyster card Andy, more than double that if you're paying cash.

i have to say the show was very good again not one of my fav films but this show was good, we went out for a meal both friday and sat night and i was very supprised at the price was more or less the same as aroung here, i did think that would have spent loads but no it was fine

the london eye was good i can't believe they have to check the things every time people get off, they go in with mirrors to look under the seats and above the lights mad or what

but all in all we loved it and i think i will be planning another tip for us very soon more brownie points :p
