Hes gone! - Thank god

Not getting Viera is a huge blow to madrid. They have a poor midfield (Figo & Beckham vastly over hyped) and useless defence.

I hope Michael does well there, he is doing what is best for him and that is right. Lets be honest if a better player than Owen came up the ranks we'd say goodbye to Owen and cash him in whether he wanted to go or not - it is business.

I don't understand the anti-Owen sentiment, came for nothing - scored lots of goals - leaves for £8m plus another player. He carried a rubbish team for many years and hasn't one a single important medal yet, look at how many medals Neville has, that has got to hurt owen.

Wish him will but won't really give him a second thought. Concentrate on LFC.

Can't believe I said he hasn't "one" an important medal. Sorry "won"

What a pathetic deal. We must be seen as a joke around Europe. 8 million plus as reserve player. We could'nt even get any quality in return. Nunez has been valued at 2 million at best. No-one has ever heard of him before.

What a Joke!

Michael Owen  got a say in our new manager, was swayed by Stevie staying, but continued to delay and delay until he cost us millions as his free transfer date got closer and closer.

I shook his hand last year in the Carlsberg Suite, I'm not sure I would shake it now.

Let it go, fivecups. As much as you are frustrated, I think Owen will not really win much in Spain, if he gets to paly enough games to qualify for a squad medal, unless Mardid addressed their defensive midfield problems.

I know that is scant consolation as Liverpool should receive much more in transfer fees for Owen.

Kinda rubs it in when you see Viera saying that hes decided to stay for the love of the club (whether that was true is another thing) and then seeing Owen getting out of Liverpool and straight on a plane to Madrid, kinda shows his love for the club that gave him the opportunity, position and money that he's taking advantage of now.

He'll probably pop up at the Madrid press conference and thank the liverpool fans for the support (too little, too late), but he should really apologize for putting the fans, management etc through torment by stalling by saying he'll re-sign after Euro '04, when Gerrard resigns, when a new manager arrives etc and even when thats all done and dusted, he's packed his bags and gone.

Owen has been lackluster during the last few seasons and his Euro '04 performances were okay at best and overshadowed by (ahem) Rooney, maybe overall its the best thing in the club to allow young strikers with Liverpools best interests at heart to take over (Cisse & Baros).

The funny thing with football and every other sport, is someone else will come along and surpass expectations, and maybe in a year or two maybe we'll see a liverpool reunion of drop outs at Manchester City :) (Anelka, Fowler, McManaman and Owen)

We should also put our faith in Nunez as he has done something that Michael Owen cannot simply do, put pen to paper and sign for Liverpool. :)
