Embarrassing

There will be empty seats at the Champions League final in Moscow after both clubs failed to sell their allocations, according to a report in The Times.

Even Manchester United - with their claim to be the world's best supported club - still had tickets on general sale on Monday night as fans shunned the expensive trip to Moscow.

The Times claims that phone calls to the United ticket office revealed that there were still £73 and £120 tickets available. Those are now likely to remain unsold as it is far too late to make travel arrangements.

Chelsea claim to have sold their allocation but their official website reveals that there is still some 'limited availability' on two-night trips.

There is also the distinct possibility that many people who have bought tickets will see their money go to waste as they find the cost of the trip prohibitive.

The Times reports, 'On the Craigslist.org website's Manchester and London sections there were nearly 500 tickets for sale last night, many offered for face value. "Can't afford trip and need to sell," one seller wrote.

'Sean Bones, the vice-chairman of the Manchester United Supporters' Trust, said: "The Moscow trip is similar in price to next year's season tickets and people are having to make a choice between shelling out for one game or seeing every match next year."

The embarrassment of the empty seats is set to put massive pressure on UEFA to keep Champions League finals in western Europe and the next two will be in Rome and then Madrid, with the 2011 final likely to be held at Wembley.

:D I had to take one of the lads in work to Old Trafford to pick his tickets up yesterday, he got them for someone else because he cant afford to go. He had tears in his eyes as he got back in the car and he was staring at the tickets all the way back  I would have sold my car,MRS or house to get the money to go if it was Liverpool playing their, I guess they just don't have the same sort of commitment

Even the council have disowned them. In the event that Man.Utd win the Champions League...they are apparently not allowed to have a victory parade around the city.

Hi Nanny, I'll watch until 9PM then it's the Apprentice on BBC1 for me :D

I am surprised that neither team have sold their allocation.

It's been humourous to listen to them bleat for the last few weeks about the cost when 2 out of the last 3 seasons REDS have had to find the funds to make the trips to Istanbul and Athens . My heart bleeds for them .........NOT :D

We couldnt batter you if we tried nanny ! You scare the life out of me !

Incidentally, what would your nerves be like if we did reach the final and sat here waiting? I for one would probably turn to drugs ! I'll be watching and hoping chelsea win, not an ideal final for many people to watch but to see the scum weeping after winning the prem would be good to see.

I'd love to watch the game tonight....but....there's an apple sitting in the fruit bowl for at least two days, and I think I just have to eat it tonight..... :;):
To get back to Dundalk's comments above, I'd have to say Moscow is one city I have absolutely ZERO desire to visit. Hell, it's even more expensive than this rip-off city I live in and that's saying something !! Plus, I believe there's corruption at every street corner - no thanks, mate....
