No one seems to mention it though (in the show or on fansites). I'd have thought that would have been a major part of the news story. Makes me think it was omitted on purpose ???

By my calculations, looking at where part of the plane was found (acording to the report shown on the tv broadcast) , it was over 3000 miles from Sydney and roughly 500 miles from Singapore.

I've never flown from Australia to the west coast of the US but assumed the flight would head North East across the Pacific, not North West across Australia itself. The only logical * explanation would be that it was going via Tokyo or Korea in which case it would have been heading North before it got lost.  :D

*not that anything is logical in Lost

I still think there might be two time lines and somehow they have all been there before, thats why things like the loto numbers are the same as the hatch numbers as he was the one to do them in the first place.

Apparently the producers have claimed it's one timeline. Mind you that could mean anything considering they've openly admitted to changing the storylines based on internet rumours. The whole vile vortices theory seems to fit in with it all at the moment but who knows what they have planned next.

Wasn't aware of "Lostpedia", thanks for the tip Bammo , some interesting stuff in there that just makes everything even more confusing :D .

This for example makes no sense and offers no explanation .

Oceanic Flight 815
From Lostpedia

Oceanic Airlines Flight 815 departed from Sydney, Australia on September 22 2004, at 14:15, from gate 23, flying to Los Angeles, California, United States where it would arrive at 10:42. There were 324 passengers and crew members on board the Boeing 777.

Approximately six hours into the flight, Flight 815 encountered problems with their radio. The pilot decided to alter course to Fiji, and approximately 2 hours later, the plane hit turbulence after traveling over 1000 miles off course. The plane broke into three sections, which landed inland, on the beach, and just offshore of the Island. Passengers and/or crew members from all three sections survived the crash.

The wreckage of a Boeing 777 was subsequently discovered deep in the Sunda Trench off the coast of the Indonesian island of Bali by a marine salvage expedition financed by the Maxwell Group. (Find 815) Footage of the wreckage, including footage of bodies inside the plane, was released to the media. In an interview, expedition leader Oscar Talbot said it was unlikely that the bodies on plane, at that depth, could ever be recovered.

Flight path

Main article: Flight path of Oceanic 815

As stated, the plane took off from Sydney, Australia bound for Los Angeles in the United States. Sayid comments that the plane traveled in a North-East direction, typical of all commercial airliners. After losing radio contact, the pilot turned the plane around towards Fiji, and two hours later and over a thousand miles in the wrong direction traveled, the plane hit turbulence. Obviously, the plane therefore crashed somewhere in the South Pacific.

After six hours fllying NE from Sydney , at normal cruising speed of 550 mph Oceanic flight 815 would have been 3300 miles from Sydney, approx 800 miles NE of Tuvalu and well into the South Pacific .At this point the aircraft experienced problems and turned towards Fiji approx 1400 SSW (south south west) . It flew for two hours before crashing which would make the logical crash site approx 300 miles NNE (north north east) of Fiji , the site given in the show is approx 5000 miles away . Even if when the plane first encountered trouble it had instead of heading for Fiji , turned west and spent two hours flying towards the (now) announced crash site it would still have been 4000 miles short.

:no  It just don't make sense !

:D

Yeah thanks to D/L culture , series is fast tracked here in Oz but im not sure i can wait a week and may need to grab ep3 off the torrents.  The new characters introduced in Ep2 have certainly added  new dimension to the show

One thing that bothers me is why doesn't Hurley loose any weight?  I mean you'd have to loose some weight if you eat fruits and run around the island all day.  If anything I'd say he's getting even fatter!
