McCain seems to always talk about war - never economics or , god forbid, health.

Most of the democrats seem to want out of Iraq ASAP so hopefully one of them will win.

I saw McCain is 5/2 in paddypowers to win. Seems a good bet.

I will Vote for Ron Paul if he runs as an Independent or as a Libertarian, if he doesn't run, I will vote for McCain. I just hope that a Dem doesn't win, Universal health care sounds like the worst thing ever, would not work in this country, and it goes against everything the constitution stands for

I'm the exact opposite... I'm hoping for a Democrate (preferebly Obama). I know McCain probably isn't too bad, but I just don't like all these over religious and right wing types associated with the Republicans. I don't like them one bit. The health care thing sounds as a good idea in my ears, and it works very well in numerous european countries. Whether it would or would not work in the US I don't know (but who does for sure?), but I just don't like the idea of people not being able to get treated, just because they don't have the money... go ahead and call me a f'ing socialist

Anyway, I'm not an american so naturally I don't know all the ins and outs of your politics. This is just my view from the outside.

Edit: however I've got a pretty strong feeling, that McCain will win it. As others have already mentioned, some voters will be unsure about voting for a woman/a black guy when it comes down to it, and will probably end up voting for the "classic" greyhaired white guy who's been a POW.

I also CANNOT stand the religious right and I think they are ruining my country. WHO ARE THEY to impose their religious values on the rest of the country. It is very clear in our constitution that we have the freedom to choose our religion AS WELL AS the FREEDOM FROM religion. It is very clear that there should be a separation of church and state and that it is unconsitutional to make politicians pass any kind of "religious test" Mike Huckabee scares me to death, and If Mitt Romney actually believed in the Book of Mormon I would be scared of him too but I think in his heart he has to KNOW its a load of cr@p so he isn't toooo bad.

Its not that I think people who are poor should die, I think that if the entire system was privatized with NO government intervention WHATSOEVER, the costs would come down tremendously and people who decided they want health care could choose whatever package they wanted or could afford.

Yes some of the poorest people wouldn't be able to afford health care that covered them if they had rare terminally ill disseases, and that sucks, but thats life. In a completely private system, almost all people would be able to afford some kind of insurance or another, and I know it would be terrible to rely on it, but knowing that the entire system was private there would be LOTS of charities set up that would be designed to build free clinics or emergency rooms paid for by the goodness of people's hearts.

Also without government regulation, people would worry about fraud, but people would KNOW that the industry wasn't regulated and there would be a market demand for "watchdog" consumer report companies to do third party research so you know what plans have what rating

In case you haven't figured it out I am a hardcore Libertarian heavily leaning towards Anarcho-Capitalism

I vote Joe for President

I had a conversation the other day with a lad from Michigan regarding the elections he was quite steadfast in his reply America will never allow a black man or a woman president we are not ready for that yet he said, So im guessing he must have been republican

I was quite shocked though with what he said whats your veiws on this Joe

You don't have to be American or live in America to know that what this fella was saying is true. This is why I reckon if either one of them becomes the next president, then they'll probably become the next dead one also.

this lad was going on about never mind the elections and whos running the people higher up would never allow this to happen it wouldnt even get that far were either one of them would be close to becoming President.

I think it would be more difficult for a woman to become president because of how much media you would have to deal with you would either come off looking like a huge power bitch or she will come off as weak or ditzy which you can't be if your in politics. i think its much harder for a woman to be likeable and also give off the presence that they can make tough decisions or lead a nation. And people are also tired of Bush Clinton Clinton Bush Bush in the last elections and ppl aren't sure if they want 8 more years of Clinton

And the main issue with Barrack is that he has almost no experience only a few years in the Senate, people aren't sure if you should vote someone because they have nice ideals and they are great at giving inspiring speeches.

I think Colin Powell would have won the 2000 election if he would have ran

I don't see it as an issue in this country, anybody who wouldn't vote for someone BECAUSE they are black or a woman does not have a significant enough amount of followers to impact an election.

It's a very close call indeed.

If Clinton wins the Democratic nomination, I think McCain will be the next President. I do get the slight feeling that if push comes to shove most Americans would opt for experience, and what they perceive to be the safe option, ahead of a woman who gets absolutely slated by the right wing media for being weak or 'flip floppy' as they say over there. The fact that she went from such a strong position poll-wise initially to a far more (relatively speaking) tenuous position, now, would suggest that voters lack confidence in her.

If Obama wins the nomination, I think he'd give McCain a better run for his money and momentum could quite possibly see him through.

Overall though, I have a felling McCain might just prevail because of his experience, traditionalist America is usually very strong when called upon. I know he polarises conservatives to a certain extent, but I think those who are unsure of him will fear a Democrat victory so much, that they would come out in support of him anyway. He isn't so right-wing that he'd put off independents, he strikes a fair balance between conservatives and independents. For the 'unsure' he is effectively the default candidate.

The reason why McCain is so strong in my opinion is because those ultra conservative talk radio christian right people are going to vote for the republican candidate pretty much no matter what, and McCain has very good independent appeal, espcially for a "conservative" thats why he would be so strong in the general election, but he has the fact that Mike Huckabee stayed in the race and is taking away from what would be mitt romney supporters if it was a two horse race which is making the Republican race less close than it should be.

I am sure Fred Thompson will be the republican VP candidate and he will help carry all the special interest "true" conservatives

Please explain why universal health care wouldn't work in your opinion... want to see your view.
