while there's kill bill fight scenes getting mentioned i've got to bring up the one where the bride (uma thurman) is fighting elle driver (daryl hannah) in budd's motorhome. the confined space, total destruction and the climactic eye plucking is pure genius.

Hard to argue with Rocky Vs Creed. Don't think you can beat that although i loved his scrap with The Hulkster in Rocky 3. Quality.

Can't beat Hugh Grant vs that other dude in the Bridget Jones movie. Comedy gold.

As for BIG fights. The two big battles in Braveheart. Absolutely amazing. Can't beat them for big battles. I would have run the other bloody way, and quickly!

not really a fight scene but more a beating up in Shawshank when the prison guard kicks the hell out the tubbie new guy on his first night. Not really anything special in terms of the action like all these other examples, it was just really hard hitting start to introduce the style of life at the prison. The guy dies from the injuries too, kind of a sad introduction into the prison life

one handed spencer tracey giving meaningful slaps to all sorts in 'bad day at black rock' - a brilliant film if you haven't seen it.

I thought the fight at the end of Rocky Balboa was really well done. The fact that it actually looked like a televised fight made it so much more atmospheric.

The end of Karate Kid always gets me, even though the crane kick at the end actually looks ridiculously feeble.

Arnie vs that Kristanna Loken woman in Terminator 3 is a good 'un, where they're dragging one another through partition walls and urinals.

Mal vs the operative at the end of Serenity. Particularly like the nasty crunch sound when he nails the guys back at the end.

A lot of the main fight scenes in the Bourne films have to be up there. Incredibly well choreographed, and very convincing.

And what about the not-easily-forgotten wrestling scene in Borat?

I have a new one to add, I watched it last night its on Sky Movies Premier if anyone is interested its called Warrior King : Two brilliant fight scenes, one in a warehouse where the the bloke fights loads of guys on Rollerblades and Bmx,s, then the best one is at the end when he fights at least 30 guys including 4 HUGE men who look like W.W.F stars. You will never see and hear so many broken bones in a film ever. A bit far fetched in places but as far as fight scenes go it is amazing. :nod

It is on again tonight if anyone wants to watch it

Big Niall wrote:I HATE wire fighting BS like the matrix , people flying through the air etc - what rubbish

Bourne films have great fighting in that it is dirty fighting, knee in rocks and headbut etc.nothing that flash.

So there - question answered :D

Get a grip

You dismiss "wire work " in movies as rubbish and then go on to applaud the heavily edited, almost cut  frame by frame fighting in the Bourne films.

I think you're confusing hollywood with reality , so heres a reality check.  All fight scenes in movies are just fight scenes in movies !, I think in movies we are expected to suspend our disbelief and just enjoy the action , or maybe you're suggesting that the action in, for example, the Rocky movies is realistic and therefore more valid?

Have you ever been in a fight ?

One of my fave movies Dawsino and yet the opening fight scene (?) doesn't spring to mind . Maybe I'm punch drunk   :D

Seen so many films (and being a fan of asian film in particular ) after a while stuff just begins to blur into a violent soup.

Good call on the hammer fight in Old Boy btw, If I had to guess at my favourite it's probably inside one of Jet Lee's movies , but don't ask me which one.

Outside of "martial arts" one of my faves has gotta be "Evil Dead 2" where the hero (Ash ?) has a fight with his own hand .

who's laughing now ?

comedy gold   :D
