Who'd be a fan? - It's an emotional rollercoaster

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby stmichael » Tue Aug 10, 2004 11:51 am

so just your normal average boring pre-season at liverpool then? i tell you what, the last few months have seen the members of this forum undergo every emotion possible from optimism and excitement to betrayal, anger and disappointment. however the one factor that still remains is that we all love this club of ours and can't wait for the season to start. when you consider the mood on here at the end of last season that has got to count for something surely? ???

1. first of all we were excited by the possible investment from one of two sources which would have made sufficient funds available. this fell through due to a hitch.  :(

2. it appeared that gerard houllier was going to be given the last year of his contract to try and put things right. fans were split but the majority wanted him out. he was then sacked and most fans were overjoyed.

3. however when certain names got branded about as to the new manager was going to be, most fans became extremely worried again. at one stage alan curbishley appeared to be the favourite but most fans claimed he lacked the experience. others craved for martin o' neill. however benitez was appointed and there was a general sense of optimism again, mainly due to his track record.

4. so everything is rosy right? wrong. liverpool's captain and most important player's agent is reported to be in negotiations with chelsea whilst the player is away with england at euro 2004. most fans are resigned to losing him. gerrard himself admitted that the move was almost completed. :(  however for reasons only known to the player, a last minute change of heart means he starts the season at anfield! :)

5. gerrard has committed so the final piece of the jigsaw is for michael owen to finally sign a contract extension! or so we thought. one minute he's staying and the next he appears to be heading off to real madrid for a cut price 10m. :(

boring being a liverpool fan isn't it? whatever happens, lets get behind the lads tonight and get them back into the champions league where we belong!

good post st mick, to not qualfy for the CL would be disastrous, for lack of a better word, we need the cash, and confidence etc. Also, i believe Owen is waiting until we qualify for the CL until he commitd to a new contract.

here's to a win against Grazer, c'mon lads!   :)

the owen thing is a bit worrying, in fact very worrying, but i have read on here just before that Real aren't interested in any more strikers, that leaves Barca which was laways the realistic option for MO IMO.

I still think Owen will sign after we beat GAK.   :)

if Owen don't play, then i may be some wht skeptical on what is going on, it would worry me that he isn't playing in a match that is so important.

it makes you wonder if owen really gives a monkey's about the fans who have supported him down the years. also, what will gerrard make of owen leaving?

I would hope that Gerrard would try and get him to stay, for his own sake really. With out him there is no question we will be a weeker team, no matter who they bring in to repace hime

isn't it a bit naive to think that any player really gives a monkeys about what the fans think st.michael?

His career and growth (both football and wealth wise) are their only priority

Let him go as long as we make a bundle in the process and if going is what he thinks will make him grow as a player and as a person.

Being a fan is a strange thing. I used to get uptight and very restless when I watched Houllier's team because they style of play is so dreadful. Yet I still turn on at every live games. i feel gutted every time we lose and happy every time we win.

My sopuse says "just don't watch if you go through such extreme emotions during a match". She doesn't understand and never will.

If Owen leaves he should be footing the bill to change the name on everyones shirts with his name on it.

A bit too harsh to say that to Owen, don't you think? I mean after all that he has done for the club. He has a right to further his very short career span as a footballer. As long as he does not do a Bosman on us, we should not slag him off.

If he really wants to go, let him go - but at the right price.
