I rarely get more than 4 hours sleep at a time, and have been putting up with it for a few years now. Whether I go to bed early or late I wake up after 4 hours, sometimes I can get back to sleep again but more often I just give up and get up.

My Dads like Saint, he doesnt sleep properly. I think its because he done alot of shift work over a 25 year period and played havoc witth his timeclock. He told me once that when he was working on the day shift, he got home at 7.00 pm he had a few vodka;s and ends up sitting up late watching t.v. Before he knew it, it was 2.00am. He had to be up for work the next morning around 5.00am. But because he didnt feel tired at 2.00 he thought 's.od it' and stayed up all night then went to work. :(  Very dangerous indeed.

Myself, when I was out of work at the begininng of the year I could never sleep at night, and would go to bed at around 2.00 on newkitt all night. But didnt wake up until 11.00 am, so I was getting sleep, but is was just getting to sleep that annoyed me.
Now I have a job and have to get up at 5.30 am by the time I come home I'm knackered,  and cant stay awake beyond 8 or 9 most week nights. Come the weekend I'm up Saturday morning now at 6.00 am due to my work routine.

It might be a woman thing Ciggs, but in saying that all the woman I've ever met or know love a lie in.

I know how you feel cigs. I have been like that for months. I usually go to bed about 11.30/12 and go out like a light then I waken every night with out fail at 3.30. I have been to my doctors about it and she says that i have just lost my sleep pattern (no jokes please!!!) She gave me Temazepam that I'm supposed to take 1 hour before I go to bed, but I had to stop taking them as they where giving me really bad nightmares. My doctor says its caused by stress. Once your asleep and if you have any problems, you dream about them and they are always 10 times worse in dreams than reality. This then causes you to wake up and you cant get back over again because your worried about one thing or another. She said thats theres no real cure for it and if you do wake up, dont stay in bed and fight to get over again. She said get up and have a hot chocolate or something and try to relax. She said that you should soon feel sleepy again then go back to bed. What I have started to is, when I waken i go and make myself a cup of tea and go into my living room to drink it. I dont put the Tv on just sit in the dark and relax, then I go back to bed and sleep. But I do have wee tablets that I got in the chemists just incase I cant get over again. They are called Kalms and you can buy ones esp for night time. They are very good and I would recommend them to anyone whos feeling a bit stressed out at times. They really calm you down and they are not adictive either. They are herbal tablets. Give them a go cigs. They might help. If not, go to your doctors.

I had had periods like that, and even took some mild pills to sleep for a while. But in my case I realised that if I wanted to sleep properly I just had to refrain from watching tv in the bedroom or having a computer near where I sleep. The doc told me this devices' electromagnetic field mess up many people's sleep.

I have been pretty much like that for years but over the last few months have started sleeping like a baby.  I try not to have anything to eat in the late evening anymore... I was always snacking late at night (crisps, nuts, chocolate, cheese, biscuits - anything) in fact I always seemed to be starving at night (probably years of shift working).  I don't know about you but I used to think I had to drink a full bottle of wine just because I opened it but those days are behind me.

Other things I've changed... I took the telly out of the bedroom and have a window open slightly just for a bit of airflow.

Don't forget that even though you're not sleeping you are still resting... 4-7 hours kip is all you need and believe it or not you'll live longer... ask Stephen Fry!  It's a proven fact!

I agree with Dawson 100% here Lynds.

I find that making sure I do nothing in the bedroom other than sleep or making love keeps the association strong between being in bed and going to sleep. The association weakens if you watch TV or read in bed. Better to do these elsewhere and then go to bed to sleep when you are tired. :;):  :D
