Kuyt is a hardworking forward, not particularly pacey, but he can create space and when on form looked a good foil for Torres. He hasn't the passing of a midfielder, tackling of a midfielder or positional sense of a midfielder. Even if he drops deep, this does not constitute the role of a midfielder per se. He is a forward who drops deep when required to do so.

I don't think we'd replace Gerrad role for role if he was injured, we'd play with Alonso/Mascherano, and two attacking wingers.

Or Lucas, ahead of one of either of Alonso/Mascherano.

I just don't see how Kuyt has the ability to be a midfielder.

He doesn't have the passing range, tackling ability, or pace to do this job. [/IMHO]

We have plenty of cetral midfielders who are used to that position, Kuyt for a start cannot tackle well enough to take a midefield berth. Its too late to change his position, he either starts scoring, and Rafa plays him as a striker, rather than as part of the forward line, or will end up leaving, but there is no chance that he could cut it at midfield in a top Club.

I can't say I would be in favour of it and in all likelyhood it probably wouldn't work, but there are plenty examples of strikers who did make the transition. ie Stjohn, R.Kennedy and perhaps the most similar of all Alan Smith.

Why we would want to make Kuyt into a midfielder is another question, when we have so many options in that area.

Kewell and Benanoun I agree with, I guess what im saying is, Kuyt still has a lot to offer the club and I love the passion he shows when he plays, it would be a shame to simply dismiss the guy.

He wouldn't need to tackle, can't think of a midfielder who doesn't. Look if we need another CM, to go with the 6-7 we have, then we need to go out and buy one. Kuyt is a striker, and needs to score more often, stay in the final third of the pitch and defend that area only, and he will get more chances, and ultimatly goals. Goals are what i believe we paid £10m for.

Im getting way ahead of myself ! Im talking just an attacking midfielder, no harrasing the opposite midfield, no doing what the defenders do, just getting the ball and attacking from midfield, he wouldnt have to worry about tackling just keeping the ball and getting forward with it. It probably will never happen anyway, just something id be interested in seeing.

Kewell and Benanoun I agree with, I guess what im saying is, Kuyt still has a lot to offer the club and I love the passion he shows when he plays, it would be a shame to simply dismiss the guy.

I like and appreciate his endeavour and effort as much as anyone, but i think it needs refinement. His reason for being at the Club is to score, and i still think he can come good, but for that imo he needs to change, or Rafa needs to change his instructions. Maybe he is being sacrificed for the team, and that the manager believes that his overall play will give the team the result.

how many has berbatov scored this season ?? i think the same as kuyt and he same has kuyt had a good first season but now does seem to haev regained to that form . Although i have always liked berbatov , i would picked kuyt any day , firstly cause of his attitude , whether we are losing or not , he still chases for very ball like a dog and tries to win it back . His workrate is also exceptional , he can run from defence to a foward postion without much difficulty as we can see he is clearly very fit also he ahs the ability to find spaces in the opponents defences and exploits them , the only think lacking from kuyt's game now is his goals to shut u guyz up on needless and stupid polls

I know you are joking after the smiley you put at the end, but just to point out Kuyt never played in the league cup and in europe the difference in quality between the uefa cup and the champions league is massive.
I do agree that he should be scoring more goals...but Berabatov wouldnt add more imo.
