I wouldn't get too carried away, usually these good sources turn out to be their uncle Albert who knows someone who used to fix the tea machine at Anfield, not usually from Rafa's best mate.

I'd have Owen back tommorrow the amount of chances our forwards blow is pathetic.
It makes me wana cry at times.
There is no-one anywhere in the world at any stage who is any bigger or any better than this football club.

My fault. As some mate pointed out yesterday we shouldn't be discussing this baseless rumours.

Xabi Alonso demanding a place in the final? Rafa resigning on monday? a forced Owen signing up ala Chelsea? Too many rumours and some of them really difficult to believe.

As I'm sure they say in Espana : "Muchos cackos !".....
Enough of this rumour and wild stories crud....Unfortunately I don't live next or near Anfield....What about a local resident LFC fan goes up there, rings the doorbell, or knocks on the door, asks is Mr. Parry in (or better still, if Mr. Benitez would like to come out for a kickaround in the car park), and asks him who we're lining up ?
Does that sound far-fetched ? Porb. not much more than the wild speculation on here.....and all they can say is "No, he's not coming out until he's had his tea/tapas...
(Speaking of which Sabre - i DO enjoy a good tapas...)

I think we are going to be inundated with rumours/half truths until, Gerrard, Carra, Alonso , Riise , Garcia, Reina have signed their contracts and we get a couple of big signings as a statement of intent. The mancs getting their main signings out of the way so early hasnt helped ease our concerns or expectations either.

Thats a very good point saint. Man Utd signing Nani and Anderson probably hasnt helped things.
There is a lot of negative talk at the moment. A lot of it is valid as we all want signings as soon as possible but i think a lot of people are getting carried away.

Im sure the whole Rafa/Parry situation has been blown out of proportion. Although i understand that there may be a bit of tension between the two, they will both no doubt be working their buts off for the good of the club.

I too am getting a little tired of Parry's "pussy-footing" but i dont think there will be any change in that area for a while, its too much of a tricky time to get someone new in.

We are getting linked with players left, right and centre so i suggest that until concrete approaches are made, you take the rumours with a pinch of salt and enjoy the ride.

Oh and by the way, for all those worried people, Rafa is going no-where. He's here to stay!

Despite myself I actually hope that Rafa does stay if only for the stability of the club but I really hope that next season we can play more positive attacking footbal becuase last season there were far too many boring displays from the lads. There is no doubt that Rafa has a very good footballing brain but I have always had doubts over how inspirational a leader he his.

This is probably not the best place for this observation but, forgive me, I was out of town and missed a lot of the Athens post-mortem.  Also, you keep raising this point Peewee so I thought I'd respond.

While the late substitution of Crouch is fair criticism, I believe Rafa had good tactical and attacking reasons for bringing on Arbeloa ahead of Bellamy.  First of all, Finnan was knackered and needed to come off.  More importantly, however, Milan had packed their defence and there was very little room to operate through the middle (where Bellamy would prefer to play).  Our only hope of breaking them down was to stretch them out wide and get crosses in towards Crouch.  Pennant was trying to do this down the right but throughout the second half he had Seedorf as well as their fullback for company (the luxury Milan could afford for going a goal up).  So, time and again we saw Pennant double-teamed with little help on the overlap from Finnan.  I think Rafa wanted Arbeloa on to try and get behind their fullback, provide an outlet for Pennant and perhaps get a good cross or two in.  So, IMHO, not as daft a substitution as it first appeared.  But, of course, this has nothing whatsoever to do with this thread really so apologies for the tangent...

no problems bob, but the fact it was 2 minutes from the end really means it didnt matter if they were to score again, either way we were losing. the fact is their defence was slow and making many mistakes, the pace of bellamy would have added another dimension and lets not forget bellamy is not on a rail down the centre of the pitch, he would have stretched them while arbeloa, well arbeloa added nothing to be fair.

i am suprised bellamy was not used much earlier anyway

Sure, Bellamy may have made a greater impact if he came on earlier.  Fair enough.

Just heard that Rafa has to undergo a spending review investigation. An independant investigation on behalf of Gillett and Hicks to investigate Rafa's success in the transfer market. The likelyhood is that Rafa's budget will be dependent on the result of said investigation.

I can't find the original link but this was in the Independant :-

Something of a novelty at English football clubs, a spending review by the American owners to scrutinise Benitez's transfer record at Liverpool, is to be carried out by an independent body, most likely an accountancy firm. The results are sure to have some bearing on the funds made available to him
