Ah, you don't like a bit of Akon's ''Smack That''? :D

You don't like it because you can't dance to it, it's quite difficult to do that with your size. You'd be like one of them fat guys at Peter's house in that episode when they all met up together.

  :D

this isnt about what we do or dont like...its about allowing much needed variety back into an extremely staid and stagnated formula that is anything BUT representative of the nations tastes....(unless your 13-16 years old). in other words (hopefully) eradicating all the teeny-bop s.*i*e and giving some of the classics their 5 minutes of fame all over again. (at least seeing the effect on the new breed...in terms of their creativity being sparked) into producing MUSIC for the people who enjoy it, as opposed to those who hav'nt the foggiest who wrote it in the first place....Yet who will shriek and wave their body parts vigorously in its reverence. I mean for example, Eric Prydz version of the Floyds (admittedly most commercial offering) "Another brick in the wall"  as toe-tappingly banal as it remains...Ive heard young kids speaking about it as if the erstwhile DJ/Mixmeister extrordinaire had actually penned the song himself!!  Same last year with the extremely irritating and sped up Roxette cover that permeated the ears of every other chipmunk voiced gozzlehead in the vicinity...utter tripe!

its more about Educating the masses all over again. TBH i dont listen to the charts, for the reasons highlighted in the original post..The last time i did, my finger was poised over the pause button on an old tape deck! (who didnt). But i just might contribute to the compilation of it, in future should this scheme get off the ground. At 38 im in no doubt as to the futile optimism in helping to change the perceived face of commercially produced music....but at least us oldies might get the odd nostalgic musical nod in our direction. We live in hope...  :glare:

Singles Chart Shake-Up

Sunday January 07, 2007

Golden oldies from the past - such as The Beatles - could take the Top 40 by storm as the pop music singles chart is revamped.

Under new chart rules which came into force this week, any song available as an internet download is eligible for the chart regardless of when it was released.

Previously, songs could only be included if a physical copy of the single was also available in the shops.

So Snow Patrol's Chasing Cars - released back in July - is set to feature in this week's top 10.

Until now, songs were automatically removed from the chart two weeks after the physical copy of the single was deleted.

The rule change means songs which appear in adverts or on film soundtracks are likely to make a comeback.

"Under the new rules, anything and everything is eligible," said HMV spokesman Gennaro Castaldo.

"The charts will now offer a much broader representation of the nation's music tastes."

EMI is rumoured to be negotiating to release the Beatles' back catalogue as downloads for the first time.

Mr Castaldo said: "If the Beatles' songs were made available digitally, there would be such a rush to download them that a top 10 made up entirely of their music would be almost guaranteed."
