Kirsty McColl and the Pogues, Fairy Tale of New York. Its not christmas until i've heard that on the radio.
From Shankly to Brendan we follow our team, Rome to Istanbul we've all lived the dream. Our journey is long, our goal stays the same, to keep for our children the famous red name.

I like them all!

'cept for the cr*p ones! :D

Probably have to go with Wizzard on the party scene, and "Do You Hear What I Hear?" as a straight one.

Christmas songs fall distinctly into two categories for me: The atmospheric, nostalgia inspiring tunes heard first, in childhood and cherished for all time. And the melodies and Lyrics that invoke the sheer fun, vibrancy and 'spine-tingling' essence of the festive season. here's my top ten, made up of a combination of 5 of each of the two types;  First up, the Traditional:

1) Silent Night without a shadow of a doubt, one of the simplest, but best ever.
2) O' little town of Bethlehem
3) In the Bleak Midwinter
4) O' come all ye Faithful
5) Hark! the herald angels sing

and the contemporary:

1) Fairytale of New York
2) Last Christmas
3) Do they know its Christmas
4) The Christmas song
5) Stop the Cavalry

All the above echo Christmas to me. And like other members have said: Fairytale of New York is among the very best. Ive only to catch the slightest strains of the String section at the end of that song to 'know' Christmas has well and truly arrived. Of course there are countless others that both inspire and deserve mention...far too many to list. And though the majority lack real substance from a technicallly 'musical' perspective, they are, without question among the most recognised, and loved pieces ever written.

Its very hard to decide on a fav. I like the party ones like Slade and Wizzard but Maria Carey - All I want for Christmas is you would be my fav Christmas song. I know Fairy Tale of New York is a good one, but depresses the hell outta me
I have a very good cover by Sinead O'Conner. Shes singing Silent Night and she sings it very well. Its on the Now, The Christmas Album (disc 2) if anyone wants to hear it.
