Typical media-peddled b*llocks mate.

The only thing you can believe when it's written in a paper is the date.

Its not that bad there. ive been there for a few months not too long ago. the only people in trouble are the people that are being sent in to cause trouble. its an offensive war, and every man and woman that sign for the forces know exactly what they have joined up to do.

Coddy, dunno whether you are in the Forces or were in Afghanistan in some other capacity but surely people join up to defend their country? Not to get involved in arguments on behalf of the US and their playground style view of the World ("we're bigger than you so do as you're told")
I've a mate who has to go out there early next year and he's been in the Army 17 years, he's been told by his 'oppo's that it ranks right up there alongside anything he'll have done before.... As the saying goes, "War is hell"............ but is it our War?

Northern Ireland was Britain's Vietnam.

If by "Vietnam" you mean a pointless conflict over a piece of land not worth dying for.

Do you know Britain still has twice as many troops in Northern Ireland as Iraq, (8k vs 4k) and only 1-2 k in Afghanastan. Seems strange considering Northern Ireland is fairly okay these days.

Anybody know why?

Plus Britains foreign policy is very much to be America's junior partner and share the spoils of war with them. No army has landed in Britain for about a thousand years.

Thats  exactly what i said!! "every man and woman that sign for the forces know exactly what they have joined up to do. " if defending our country means taking out the root of all (well most) terrorist problems, then thats exactly what i was doing out there.

Plus, the pongo's pull the short straw in offensive situations, i had it relativly cushtie out there in comparison. Mine Clearance is probably a piece of pi$$ compared to violent assault on some god forsaken territory.
