People should stop calling it a tackle... do that on any street in the country and you'd end up in front of the beak..... Thatcher's a joke with his so called "apology" to Mendes the next day

Should be banned for life, dont know how you can call that a tackle, he may aswell have hit him with a sledgehammer or something

i thought it was class.

nah, it was bad, but it happens. 5 match ban or 6 tops. anything more is a sham of a mockery. If this is judged too harsh it will set a dangerous president for other tackles and the game of football will dissapear into the courts and it'll just suck

How anyone can label this incident as anything other than thuggery is beyond me. :no

I've just looked at a different clip from the one that was posted earlier and you can clearly see two things which should prove that Thatcher went into that 'challenge' with only one thing in mind - to hit Mendes hard. Heres the Alternate Quality Vid. If you look closely at the 1st replay angle it f shows Thatcher's face as he makes contact and you can clearly see an aggressive look on his face just as he makes contact. The second replay angle from across the pitch and behind thatcher as he runs in you can clearly see that he is only looking at where Mendes is and not where the ball is. I think that the FA will look closely at these bits of vid and have no doubts that it wasn't an aggressive challenge that went wrong; it was a pre-planned assault.
The police getting involved in sport could be an unwanted precedent but in this case it has to be justified. No matter what course of action the FA takes whether it be a lengthy ban or outright ban (doubtful) you'd have to say Thatchers top-flight career is over. His limited quality has had him scraping 'round the lower echelons of the premiership for years and after this who'd be pathetic and desperate enough to take him on now.

Does anybody know actually how far the police can take their case if any against Thatcher as Mendes hasn't actually pressed charges over this, it's fans in the stadium who've complained to the police and apparently Mendes isn't planning on making a formal complaint from what i've heard.
