Crt hdtvs - Some help

I'm interested in buying a new HDTV.

I'd like a decent sized tv, with a high resolution.

The plasma and LCD screens I have been looking at are just way too expensive.

In one store I noticed a flat screen cathode ray tube HDTV with outstanding picture quality and yet was only about 1/4 the price of a similar sized LCD model.

Anybody have a CFT HDTV or know of a good place online where you can buy them?

Cheers

althought HD tvs have a fantastic picture and that but i think they are a bit of a rip off,

Reason: my reasons are unless they come with a adapter to connect the HD sky/cable you need to fork a few quid to have it, its all about compatibillity (spelling) my understanding is that Sky will give you a box same as cable with out the adapters and leads you need oh and dvd players also, dvd players whilst connected to your new HD tv wont play a copied dvd (if you have them) because of this specail adapter its like a copyright thing it will only play original dvds and same as sky and cable you wont be able to record from them only to the HD you have in the Digi boxes, and from what my mate was saying in work you you will not have the full benifit of HD tv with out the specail adapters, sorry to put a dampner on things mate,

P.S i forgot what the adapters are called.

It's a f*cking con.

I had a choice today, funnily enough:

£800 for a 32" LCD tv, or £150 for a 32" analogue TV, albeit second hand.

Guess which I took!!!

Here's a hint:

I still have £650 to spend elsewhere. :D

You have to be very careful if you are buying a hdtv, at the moment there are 3 types :-

720p - 1280x720 progressive (60 FPS)
1080i - 1920x1080 interlaced (30 FPS)
1080p - 1920x1080 progressive (60 FPS) (FPS = frames per second)

At the moment most programes are only able to broadcast in the very compressed form which  limits the picture improvement.

I would wait if I was you. Buy a cheap tv to keep you going for 12months - by then blueray and hddvd will be established(and cheaper) and hopefully all the broadcasts will be in the higher quality. If you cant wait make sure its not 720p - 1280x720 progressive (60 FPS) as this is the lowest quality (I think).

Yes, I was aware of the above, but thank you for your post.

1080p is the standard I want, and I realise that a big plasma or LCD at that resolution is going to cost thousands.

I have no problem with having a massive CRT telly in my living room, I don't plan on wanting to hang my tv on the wall or anything like a picture.

I won't be buying until early next summer when I move into my new house and after I get married.   :buttrock  However, I want to do my groundwork now.

HDTV quality is exceptional. I have watched high rez episodes of Lost and 24 on my 22" computer monitor and the picture quality vis a vis a standard DVD image is like chalk and cheese.

I was getting a 42 inch, Sony Bravia T.V for about 3000 dollars in Lebanon, but then my mum cancelled on getting it because of the war. The Bravia is still on our list! we will sure get it when we get back to Beirut.

the Sony Bravia is fantastic! although expensive! its amazing! high defenition, high quality resolution and 42 inch! :D

Your right about the sheer quality of hdtv , but in an age were this years electronics are usually improved  100% better and 50% cheaper 12 months down the line, I think I'll stick with the telly I've got (for now)  :)

Seriously though ,PC's DVD recorders ,Wide screen TV's ,all cost a bomb when they first hit the shops ,a year later not only had the product generally improved but was also significantly cheaper . Only idiots run out a buy a new product on it's initial release .  :D
