5 times speaks for itself, no need to prove ourselves in a friendly game against a club with a silly name

Is that Munky as in Northern Monkey? It's a fiendish and clever disguise for a wind-up if it is. If neither it nor you are a wind-up then try interspersing your posts with the occasional sensible one.

Yeah cos these friendly games are like the equivalent of the knock out stages of the champions league arent they!!

I was very impressed with Sissoko today. Last season he was all about running all over the pitch getting his long legs into the tackles and winning the ball for us. Today we saw a different side to him with him playing further up the pitch, he made some good passes and showed some skill.

Overall it wasn't a good performance- the good thing was it wasn't a strong side put out and the main players (Pennant, Crouch, Gerrard, Sissoko, Carra) looked good.

Shame we never scored a goal as with the Charity shield coming up goals would give us a boost. Winning breeds confidence- losing breeds...Evertonians!! :D

Oh well...roll on the next game!

After his cut inside and shot in the cup final, and the best cross of the first half today, I think we have found our new winger...... Big Sammi  :D  I  thought Momo had a great first half and Zenden looked out of place as a defensive midfielder. Gerrard looked totally different class when he came on, seemed a yard faster in thought and deed. As long as we have no injuries im not worried about the score.

Winning competitive games breeds confidence, not pre-season friendlies. Pre-season friendlies don't bring confidence because they aren't important. How can you breed confidence from games that aren't important?

The point is that you can't, which is they aren't taken seriously in terms of results.

Having won all of our pre-season games last season, it made no difference on the league at all.

I would be worried if we had started all of our senior players and ended up losing. But the point in the last couple of games was to give everyone some playing time and to raise their fitness levels.

Yeah all the first team players looked good even though it wasnt a fantastic performance, doesnt really matter about the result in these games, hopefully we can get a few goals in the friendly on friday though to go into the qualifier with a bit more confidence, rafa should know what his first choice 11 is for the qualifier

positives

bellamy,pennant,gerrard,crouch and no more injuries

downside

djimi is still wearin a lfc shirt, palleta is not a right back, zenden looks abit light weight for the middle of the park(but it is pre season) and our new centre mid pepe had to play in goal!!!

a good run out and a good line at the back ,jack hobbs had a better game but i thought he ould have covered sami better for the first goal, when we have all the big hitters in for the trip to cardiff we might get a better idea how rafa see us starting out the season

all in all happy

Yeah id agree with that, how come people keep mentioning the trip to cardiff as our first important game of the season though, we've got the 1st leg of the qualifier first when we should have our best players out

i know what you mean goat but the cardiff game will be the tester against prem opponents and even that game is 80% i still feel that rafa's strongest team will start.

first leg champ's league qual team would be for me

                         pepe
kronkamp(if finnan has a knock) carra sami jar

pennant    sg           momo      speedy
            crouch         bellamy

I thought that the major players (well the ones who should feature most) played well.
Pennant looked lively, although why he didnt change his boots at half time is beyond me.
Bellamy looks really sharp and looks like when he is playing alongside another striker and the rest of the first team, he will score plenty of goals.
Sissoko was immense and gets better every game, John Barnes was doing my head in saying Sissoko usually sits....questioning why he was so far forward, news to you John...he always does that with Alonso usually sitting in front of the back four, it pressurises the opposition defenders and midfield and allows us to gain posession in dangerous areas.
The one negative factor was Gonzalez, he didnt offer Riise any protection at all, he may be great going forward, but if the right back goes beyound him (which he did countless times) then he has to track him. I hope it was just a case of pre-season rust because if not John Craig's thread on the lack of cover for the left hand side could be accurate. Obviously over the course of the season we should have plenty of options, but the first 6 games are tough and a good start is vital. This might sound stupid but i think the liability (Traore) could start the season in the first eleven if Aurellio is not fit, hopefully he will play Riise and Zenden, but i am not sure.

All in all though i was happy with the way the first team players were linking up and think we will create far more chances this season, and not struggle to break stubborn teams down half as much.
