And hopefully we will see the likes of Gerrard, Carragher, Alonso, Crouch, etc. There are only 2 friendlies prior to next weeks Champions League qualifier so i'm sure Rafa will want to see the senior player clock up some competitive minutes.

I can't see why the senior players wouldn't get a run out. With the champions league game next week Rafa is not going to take any chances with an understrength team, therefore if he plays a strong side they're gunna needs a couple of games under their belt. Team chemistry needs practice...especially when new players are being introduced.

Robbie may not play as he is injured his knee
Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler says he took a knock to his knee during the game against Kaiserslautern at the weekend.

The Kop idol says he and the rest of the lads are working flat out this pre-season to make sure they're 100% fit for the new campaign so he'll be hoping he's ok to figure against Grasshoppers this afternoon.

Robbie said: "It's been really hard work since we came back, but hopefully we're all going to get the benefits from it when the season starts.

"I think you could see from the game on Saturday the training is taking a lot out of us.

"You can tell that by the way I was allowed to come back on the pitch after being subbed at the weekend. That was definitely a first in my career.

"It was just a shame because I picked up a bit of knock on my knee when I went back on, so we'll see how it is before the game."

PENNANT STARTS V GRASSHOPPERS

Liverpool's most recent signing Jermaine Pennant has been handed his first start for the club as the Reds step up their pre-season preparations against Grasshoppers in Zurich this afternoon.
Fellow new signings Mark Gonzalez, Gabriel Paletta and Craig Bellamy also start.

England contingent Steven Gerrard, Jamie Carragher, Peter Crouch and Scott Carson all make their first appearance of the summer as substitutes, as does Dutch international Jan Kromkamp.

Pepe Reina returns in goal after his midfield cameo appearance at the weekend.

Team in full: Reina, Paletta, Hyypia, Riise, Hobbs, Anderson, Zenden, Gonzalez, Pennant, Bellamy, Sissoko. Subs - Carson, Kromkamp, Gerrard, Carragher, Crouch, Traore.

Hobbs been given a chance to rebuild his confiedence, but at right back it seems, not totally sure how the midfield will line up, Anderson also plays on the left? And Gonzo can play off the striker, that is my guess.
