I hope he really leaves...but then, how much can we really get from his transfer? After paying 4.5 million pounds for such an awful player with such a wretched injury-wrecked 2 time loan spells, to just get him off the wage list and free some cash flow for other signings would be a achievement.

I really do think that is the only option mate.

believe it or not  Diao is a good mate. He called me the other night and we talked a bit about his Liverpool days .
here's what he said in a nutshell :

"Liverpool, Birmingham and Portsmouth don;t know what they're talking about, people expected me to hold the ball up from the first day tho i was still developing as a player. Noone at the club has the patience to give a real chance to new players especially when they're new to the game- they expect us to be able to play from the start. When my agent offerd Ged loads of cash to buy me he promised i'd be a firm favourite with the fans- nearly as popular as my mate diouf.  going to Liverpool was the biggest mistake of my life and I'm hoping for a fresh start at Charlton now

oh and Gerrard's overrated!!! and Charlton have the best midfield in the world!!  :O

apparently sol campbell's off to charlton aswell from what i hear.

he was particularly attracted to them when he heard that their goalscorers in their recent pre-season friendly were "young and bent".

:D

s@int wrote:Spanish playmaker Xabi Alonso has underlined his commitment to Liverpool while midfield colleague Salif Diao has been given permission to play for Charlton on trial.

Diao is to play for Charlton against Hibernian at Easter Road.

The Senegal international spent last term on loan at Portsmouth and the previous campaign on a season-long loan at Birmingham, but both spells were affected by injury.

Liverpool spokesman Ian Cotton said: "Salif has been given permission to play for Charlton in Tuesday's friendly game against Hibernian."

According to the Hibs site Diao didnt even make the bench for the Addicks..
Hibernian 3 Charlton 2

Charlton Athletic provided the final pre-season test for Tony Mowbray’s side, and in the event it was a very useful workout for both the Premiership and SPL side. Charlton were quick off the mark and caught Hibs cold when they went ahead courtesy of the first real attack of the game, the English side going further ahead while Hibernian struck woodwork twice. A superb strike however from Scott Brown set the game up for an interesting second half….

Hibernian v Charlton Athletic
Easter Road Stadium
25th July 2006

Charlton Athletic:
First Half: Myhre, Young, El Karkouri, Hreidarsson, Ashton, Rommedahl, Hughes, Kishishev, Ambrose, Thomas, Hasselbank. Subs: Fortune, Walker, Walton, Sorondo, Ewell, Holland.
Second Half: Randolf, Walton, Sorondo, Fortune, Youga, Ewell, Holland, Sam, John, Gislason, Waker. Subs: Tanska, Carvill

Apparently someone left a ball lying around in the carpark and the few touched Diao had then was enough for Dowie not to let him on the bus!

He's apparently on a week's trial at Charlton, which will take in a friendly against Valencia on Saturday.

Fingers crossed he impresses in training...
