Yellow cards - Question

International Football/Football World Wide - General Discussion

Does anybody know how many yellow cards (in the world cup) a player may accumulate over a series of games before he recieves a ban ? And are yellow cards a player has collected wiped clean later in the competition ?

I'm sure I heard one commentator mention that " with Gerrard on a yellow from the Paraguay game if he recieved another one v Trinidad he would miss the Sweden game ".

Surely thats not right ?

A player is suspended for a match in the World Cup if he collects just two yellow cards during the group stages and it is not until the start of the second round that players again start with a clean slate.

So yes, if Gerrard or Crouch get booked against T&T they will miss the Sweden game.

Then I think they are suspended for the next round; the last 16.

Two yellow cards, not much leeway for the defenders...
