If you follow the song's lyrics, Jimi is talking about how the ups and downs of the world, of existence, cannot change his own ideals, his own state of being.
"If the sun refused to shine, I don't mind. If the mountains fell in the sea, Let it be." - "Fall mountains, just don't fall on me".
"If 6 turned out to be 9" - if all the world's established conceptions turned upside down - "I dont mind !"
He also shuns criticism of his ways. Jimi had been mocked by conservative minded souls for years and here he lets them know that they just can't get to him either. "Got my own world to live through and I ain't gonna copy you".
He even taunts the common man this way, "White collored conservative flashing down the street, pointing their plastic finger at me. They're hoping soon that my kind will drop and die, but I'm gonna wave my freak flag high, HIGH !"
The anti-establishment stance of the song was recognised by Dennis Hopper and he used it as a sort of hippy anthem in his legendary film "Easy Rider".
In the song however, Jimi shows himself to be even above the trappings of hippy fashion - "If all the hippies cut off all their hair, I don't care."
