Eto'o has gone on loan to Al Ittihad

JEDDAH: Barcelona’s Cameroonian striker Samuel Eto'o has joined AFC Champions League champions Al Ittihad in a loan move.

Speaking at a press conference to announce his signing, Eto’o said: “I don’t play for the money alone. Happiness is my priority that's why I chose to play with Ittihad in the AFC Champions League."

Details of his contract have not been revealed.

Al Ittihad has also signed a contract with the player to open an ‘Ittihad and Eto'o Soccer Academy’ in Cameroon. “The Saudi club will benefit from the players that graduate from the academy,” said Al Ittihad President Mansoor Al-Balawi.

I don't believe it.

It must be a very short-term thing surely, just a few months too help Al Ittihad win the AFC Champions league or something. Why would one of the best strikers in the world, scoring plenty of goals at one of the best clubs in the world go to Al Ittihad for? He is friends with the president there so that must be it.

I can't quite believe it TBH, and there isn't much on any credible football sites about it as yet.

If it's a longer-term thing, then I'd be pretty sure Henry was going to Barcelona.

I'm thinking that too John as it's not on any other football sites except some Chinese sports website and the link in here. Gotta be a wind-up surely?

Still think it's a wind up story though.

That would have to be why. Barca wouldn't release him otherwise.
