Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby The Red Baron » Thu Mar 09, 2006 11:21 am

After last nights exit from the Champions league, the board have a major decision to make.

New Stadium or new team.

I know which one I prefer. The time has now come to scrap plans for building a "NEW ANFIELD" any money set a side for redevelopment, should now be poured into developing the team.

David Moores has been a great chairman, but we need an influx of cash.If Mr.Moores cant oblige then he should move over and let some one who can.Dont get me wrong,I have the utmost respect for Mr.Moores, a fan who has invested heavily in the club but every one has a limit. This is a decision which shouldnt be taken lightly. We would be a target for all kinds of predators, but we need investment now.

I along with many others, belive we need a top quality strike force. For us to be able to compete in the transfer market,we need that investment now.

Rafa became disalusioned with the board at Vallencia, lets not let that happen here.In Rafa we have a master craftsman, like any other craftsman he needs the right tools.Lets give him them.

Lets be honest last years success came as a suprise to all of us,and was beyond our wildest dreams. We have come along way under Rafa, but I want us to compete for the title, not to be content with a champions league place. To achieve this it takes money.

Forget new stadiums and invest in the team.

they are sh!t for us but cisse will still get money, as will mori, they are just not suited to our way of playing...

anyways even worst case scenario we get 6 mill for the apir we still got a kitty enough to get the best, and players should be begging to join us

If we sell Dudek, Morientes, Cisse, Traore, Kirkland, Mellor and some of the players we have on loan there will be enough funds for a good striker. He will also recieve funds for players, he can get the RM we need. We are just a couple of players away of the ideal team, so I really dont see it necesary to scrap the plans for the stadium.

With the exception of Bolton, can you think of a team who have built a new stadium and havent sruggled.I am not saying we would struggle to the extent of lesser clubs, but I think it would be a huge financial burden.

Stadium, stadium, stadium.

What if we got more Cisses, Heskeys and Diouffs with the money?

The team is doing well, there will be some money there for signings (admittedly not Chelsea money but then, who has that kind of money?), plans for a new stadium all help build the momentum for the future.

Thats the totally right answer imo.
It would be great to have extra money to buy the top players but if we want to progress and compete in the future we need to start with creating more annual revenue, that would happen through a new higher capacity stadium.
I know winning trophies would bring money, but there is no guarantee that extra money for new players would do that.
There will be money made available to the manager and he has already showed that he is shrewd in the transfer market with sensible money.
I hope the club can get the stadium sorted asap and show the other bigger clubs that LFC are moving to the next level also.

B*llocks post, as far as I'm concerned. Rafa will get funds to add to the team in summer, and plans for the new stadium will move along at much the same rate as they have to this point (ie: very slowly).

This isn't any kind of epochal moment in our history or anything. I think last year's CL win has blinded many people to the truth about our club - we're in transition.

This year in terms of the football we play has been a huge leap over last season. I expect next season more of the results will reflect the dominance we're showing in games.

It'll take a couple more years, at least. But regardless of the outcome of one football match, we're moving in the right direction.

I'm with JBG on this one. Man Utd make about £1,000,000 a match more than us because of the size of Old Trafford. That could be an extra £30,000,000 gross per season with one good cup run. Deduct some for electricity, general maintenance, etc and we could be talking an extra £15,000,000 - £20,000,000 per season of net profit which could potentially all go on transfers. Long term is better than quick fix and there's no reason why Rafa won't get £30,000,000 to splash around with this summer. Who knows what tomorrow will bring?...

Iam not disputing the fact that the club is in transition.Like you Iam delighted with the progress we have made.Ican assure you I for one wasnt blinded by last years European Cup
win.My post wasnt a knee jerk reaction to being knocked out by Benfica, more a reaction to not having anyone who can put the ball in the net, that after all is the object of the game.

To compete on the field we need to be able to compete off it as well.Of course a new stadium, would bring in revenue, but the original plan of a 7o,ooo seater has already been down graded to around 55,ooo.With the spiraling cost of building it,Iwouldnt be suprised if the proposed capacity was lowered again.

Yeah it would be great to have a new stadium but at what cost. There is nothing to say Rafa wont have 30,000000 to spend next season, and Ihope he does, but Icant see it.All Iam saying is lets not tie the managers hands behind his back and expect miracles, give the man what he needs to do the job he was brought into do.

Its a tricky one RB, we need a new stadium for all the extra revenue that would be gained from 20-30 thousand more @rses on seats.
But I love Anfield all our history and traditions are there and the famous European nights would all be a thing of the past, a new ground wont eminate the same, Prem games the atmosphere is feckin awful at times so a new stadium would be bloody worse IMHO.

We need investment but we dont want a Roman figure taking over the club either, we have now missed out on gate revenue, and the TV money now being knocked out of the CL and the possibilty of 20 million for winning it again :(

We really should have capitalised on the win last season and money should have been invested on bringing in some real quality, we have stengthened the squad, that I am am happy with, but really the signings should have been better.

If we are to move forward though we do need a bigger stadium to compete with the mancs, Chelsea and Arsenal but at the same time we also need atleast 4 class signings but alas they can cost the price of a new stadium.
And without new players we wont win the prem, catch 22 really both are needed if we are honest but its what to do thats better for the future of the club?
There is no-one anywhere in the world at any stage who is any bigger or any better than this football club.
