I am sure a lot of you have heard about goolge earth.

It is an application, that allows you to check out the entire planet from space, via satelite images.

It is absolutly amazing. The maps are sent to you in layers and stored on you harddrive, they only need to be updated when a new map is available. Look for your house and other points of interest.

In amercian cites, you can actually take 3-D walks through towns.

Ok here is an example of what you can do.

Start screen

Zooming into New York (Manhattan)

Just by using the mouse wheel you can get closer

Now it gets interesting. You can tilt the view and turn 3-D buildings on.

with this view you can actually take a walk through the city. This 3-D option only works for american cities, but other options like roads, resturants etc work for all cities i have looked at so far.

Yeah google earth is awesome, however being paranoid sort its also very scary

Lol. The maps are between 1-3 years old, in my opinion. but yeah is a little scary.

Yeah they had article in the West Australian last week about this pix which seems to show a car floating in a Perth beachside suburb

Yes google earth is cool, my land is also beautiful from up there

. I must say though, that while they are very respectful with some sensible USA places due to security reasons (white house for instance), they don't ban sensible places for security of other countries. Other than that, great app.

Hi Sabre,

actually its got nothing to do with security. you can get aerial shots of almost anywhere you could possibly want anyway. whats cool about this application is its useability.

I have not come across anything that has been screened due to security.

I found this little marvel a couple of months ago and it's really useful as a route planner as you can set the route that you want to travel and it actually drives you along it :cool:

yes the site is bloody cool ive been on it a few times but i didnt know you could do the things babu showed us...i agree with you laza it is scary...all those times i thought know one was watching
