I've really got into watching the UFC. There is so much skill involved , to the ignorant it looks like "a scrap" but the wrestling skills are top class, to be able to wrestle, box, kick etc means you are some athlete.
Personally I think they should get rid of the rounds and judges and go to the finish - Rickson Gracie style.
Ah Rickson Gracie. Now there is the ultimate warrior,Ive an old video about him and follows his world tour -literally pasting all that stood before him. I agree Niall, pure skill at such speed, great to watch -one mistake and its over. I always favoured the striker over the wrestler but ive seen it happen so many times-it doesnt always work like that.
'' Gary lineker may well have scored 5 goals in 5 minutes , but i think you have to say, what else did he do '' ...Jimmy Hill
I think the wrestler has the better chance, it is easier to tackle a boxer to the ground than for a boxer to get standing again once on the ground.
The problem with rounds is that when you on the ground you can just guard to limit the damage and wait for the clock to save you. In Vale Tudo you have to manage to turn things around if you want to win.
Heres a UFC Light Heavyweight who is great to watch, hes a Brazilian by the name of Renato Sobral, highly skilled in BJJ with a 27-5 record, heres some pics:
