A wonder strike from the halfway line by Dietmar Hamann was the highlight of Liverpool Reserves 1-0 victory over Wolves in a match that saw Danish international Daniel Agger make his Reds debut.
Just past the hour mark Hamann spotted Wolves goalkeeper Matt Murray off his line and hit a Xabi Alonso style shot that sailed into the back of the net.

Liverpool Reserve manager Paco Herrera and coach Hughie McAuley fielded their strongest team of the season with Jan Kromkamp making an impressive first start at right back.

Djimi Traore partnered David Raven at the heart of the Reds defence with Stephen Warnock at left back. Dietmar Hamann and fit again Darren Potter were paired in the centre of midfield while Ramon Calliste partnered Florent Sinama-Pongolle in the attack. Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez was also present at Bucks Head to watch the game.

Wolves welcomed back goalkeeper Matt Murray who has been out for a year after breaking a bone in his foot. Former Liverpool reserve goalkeeper Paul Harrison was on the bench for Wolves.

Last season this fixture saw a record attendance at Bucks Head of 6,280 as it was the match where Steven Gerrard made a comeback from injury.

In a low key first half Liverpool had the more clear cut chances. After eight minutes an excellent pass from Dietmar Hamann found Florent Sinama-Pongolle in space but he couldn't keep his shot down as the effort sailed over the bar.

Sinama-Pongolle had another chance after 12 minutes when he slid in and hit an effort just wide after a good run and cross down the right side from Jan Kromkamp.

Just past the half hour mark the lively 17-year-old Paul Anderson went close with a solo effort that brought a decent save from Murray.

Jan Kromkamp had a good first half at right back and supported the attack well with some surging forward runs down the right linking well with Anderson.

Liverpool with Agger on for the second half stepped up their play and the chances continued to be created. Both Agger and Sinama-Pongolle went close with fierce drives over the bar and Ramon Calliste had a great chance from inside the six-yard box but failed to make contact with an excellent Darren Potter cross.

Just past the hour mark Hamann was unlucky when he hit a tremendous shot that brought a fine save out of Matt Murray, but the German then struck a fantastic goal to give the Reds a deserved lead.

Liverpool had other chances to increase their lead but Wolves keeper Murray had a fine night in goal.

The Reds played very well on the night and the second half was very entertaining and was sealed by a fantastic goal from Hamann.

Liverpool Reserves: Martin, Kromkamp, Warnock, Raven, Traore (Agger 45), Hamann, Anderson, Potter (Hobbs 66), Calliste, Sinama-Pongolle, Guthrie (Idrizaj 76). Subs not used: Willis, Idrizaj, Antwi.

Cant wait for the Kaizer to come back Ive really missed him and Gerrard plays better when he's in the middle, Cant wait to see his goal sounds like it was a blinder.
Good match report, some of them will probably play against Pompey.

Is there a way to get a video of the goal? Sounds like a real half field shot, where the keeper wasnt past the half line.
