Transform Stevie into a rm? - Then buy Aimar or Ballack

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

First of all, I don't rate Simao, he's no better than Luis Garcia.

To be honest, I believe that Stevie could become a great RM if we give him some time. I was determined on this idea right after last match against the Bolton Volleyball team, he's almost unstoppable on both flanks.

In case of neither Simao nor Joaquin coming, we can try to acquire Aimar or Ballack as a playmaker which is currently Stevie's role. I think they are cheaper than Joaquin, and will make impact immediately. Then we use Stevie as RM to the end of the season, and see how it goes.

Just a thought, how do you guys think?  :idea

Steven Gerrard is of such a calibre of a player that he can operate in pretty much any posiiton on the pitch and make it his own. Yes he has done great down the right recently but his natural position is in the centre. Look what he did against Newcastle. Hes only out on the right unril we get a winger but you never know Rafa may just do that. It seems unlikely though that Stevie will convert inot a RM

stevie is awesome wherever he plays. He plays on teh right away from home so we can play sissoko. Id be up for gwetting ballack either way anyway. It is hammans last season and we could use 3 top class midfielders. And before anyone mentions wages, remember that wed be saving 10 million (?) on teh transfer so i think we could easily handle that department.

As for making stevie g an out and out RM? hes too awesome in the middle of the park if you ask me

the huge and obvious fault in your idea is that you plan to remove one of the nest central midfielders in world football right now and replace him with an inferior one and then put him out on the right which although he can do well is not his natural position.

i've got a better idea - let's buy a proper right sided midfielder, or even, what the hell, a right winger.

Gerrard has played a lot of his Liverpool career at right midfield, both under Houllier and latterly Benitez.

However, his best position is an attacking midfielder given a free role.

We have no hope of signing Ballack: he's on his way to Madrid or Milan for well in excess of £100,000 a week (if he plays his cards right he could get himself in excess of £130,000 a week).

I don't see us signing Jaoquin. His star has fallen slightly in the past 18 months and I don't think Benitez is interested.

I wouldn't rule out Aimar coming in the future but is he a Premiership player?

Stevie can play well anywhere really and in a way the right side does suit him. Barcelona have done it with Ronaldinho on the left wing

Joaquin is my only choice on the right. If he's too expensive to obtain this season, maybe we can use Stevie on that position temporarily, and grab someone like Aimar or Ballack whom I rate a lot lot higher than Simao.

i still think aimer is alittle bit lightweight for the premiership and he too has not been the player he can be recently. i wouldnt be shocked to see him come here but the premiership will be alot of hard work for him

I agree with jbg on gerrard's natural ability to play as a complete midlfielder regardless in the center or as a flanker. Remember istanbul? Remember how he got us the penalty? Remember the role he played during the west ham match couple of months ago? I have not seen him playing on the left yet but lad can play anywhere on the pitch.
I see him as the libero of liverpool, the guy that balances the whole equation. Nevertheless, he is a central midfielder and we should get a star quality RM.

I think I see what you're getting at, at most he can play right midfield til the end of season until we get some real pedigree RM / RW.
After centre back, a forward is the main priority ahead of a RM/RW IMHO.

Why not? Gerrard has insisted that we would accept any decision by the manager and he did enjoy of playing a rm. The problem is can Hamann and sissoko stand as the cm? I do believe Rafa will bring another rm to anfield in transfer window(simao or joaquin etc) and Gerrard will be switch back to his nature position along with alonso. Kewell is getting better every match and our midfield will look very creative and robust.

What is Stevie's natural position? CM or AM? I think he's more threatening and productive as an AM, even a RM.
