Listen, 15 hours without conceding a goal- thats :censored:

hot. But lets not let that fact take us away from an issue which could ultimately affect what has been an unbelievable second quarter to this season. If coolness personified Hyypia or god forbid Cara was to get injured who have we got? Jack Hobbs you shout- too young, you know it.
lets put some real money into a quality young ENGLISH center half who can play.
I say, STAND UP CHRIS RIGGOT.

Riggott looked the part on Saturday (despite the sending off.) We've been linked with him several times over the past year and i'm sure that was also the case when Houllier was boss. He looks strong in the tackle, has a bit of pace and looks like he can head a ball. He does look a little bit slight but that can be dealt with in the gym. He'd come at a fairly reasonable price too if Maclaren was willing to part with him.

Personally i'd break the bank to sign Anton Ferdinand in the summer. I was really impressed with him at Anfield. He has many of his brother's attributes but is perhaps a little stronger and more of a 'no nonsense' defender.

His price will rise VERY quickly if he isn't prized away from the Hammers in the near future. mainly because he's english and also because his surname is Ferdinand.

While I don't have the proper knowledge of the EPL to suggest names, I agree with your whole point redmist. We've been just lucky with the injuries so far, and we're playing many games.

The lack of defensive cover is an issue that also bothers me - but i'm confident rafa will rectify it in January. Myfirst choice would definately be anton ferdinand a he looks much better than his bollok brain of a brother and it sounds as if we may have been sniffing around him as pardew has told liverpool not to bother trying to get him but i belive that an substantial offer would turn the head of their chairman (is it still that terry Brown fella?) 'cos he seems to like selling off the best of their young talent.

I agree, I find to be quite a solid defender who doesn't take risks in defence. He's very quick to shut down strikers in the penalty cleanly.

Could you suggest a young, solid defender from Spain then? Seeing as Rafa is coach, it would make the process easier.

From Sky Sports:

Middlesbrough defender Chris Riggott has invited the club to offer him a new deal.

The former Derby ace insists he is happy to extend his stay on Teesside despite attracting interest from other clubs.

Liverpool are believed to be keeping tabs on the central defender and although Riggott is flattered by the reported interest he is more than content with life at The Riverside.

"There's been a bit of speculation and yeah, it is flattering but at the end of the day I'm not interested in going anywhere," said Riggott.

"I've enjoyed my time here massively, I'm enjoying playing and long may it continue.

"I've not heard anything or really thought much about a new contract, that's in the club's hands.

"We'll wait and see if anything happens but it's definitely something I'd like to see happen.

"It's taken a long time to get the base right here but I've enjoyed it and learnt a lot. The players are good lads, the staff are great and it's a great club to be involved in.

"I'm settled and happy here and this is where I see my long-term future."

English? No thank you. Buying english is expensive and the supply is limited. Only Sol Campbell, Rio Ferdinand and John Terry would be good enough and that ain't gonna happen. Riggot is a mediocre player and nowhere near the quality we are looking for. A Ferdinand is young and inexperienced and definately not ready to stop the likes of Ronaldihno, Schevshenko and Adriano. I would not mind signing him as a young talent for the future but his valuation is way way above what i find reasonable for a young unproven defender. Then you have all the Ledley King talk. Well, again a case of a player being way too expensive. So meybe we should not care about european football and top honours, maybe we should settle for british players all over. Where would we be without the latin creativity and flair, the nordic determination, the german industriouness and the african temperement?

Either an Englishman or EPL based player who has had EPL experience. Otherwise, the player concerned will have to endure a learning curve and we may suffer from this learning curve. Sanderos, IMHO, is a good young defender but he had cost Arsenal some goals conceded earlier on (still did suffer a lot against Drogba in the 2 matches Arsenal have faced Chelsea this season).

Boro's Riggott was impressive. I haven't seen much of Anton Ferdinand but he does look promising.

Having said that, an Englishman is very expensive. Even any other half decent Brit would be expensive. Alternative is to bring in a foreigner, expose him gradually to the EPL.

Daniel agger is good for liverpool and he is also young and can be a long term replace ment for sami hypo.

I think we need two CB unless we could get one that can do both jobs of Sami and Carra. Over this recent span of good games, you can see that Sami is the one that clears just about everything from the air while Carra is mainly used to chase down lose ball and is used as the last defender. Therefore, if we are looking to replace Sami in the long term, we should look for someone who is superior in the air so that Carra doesn't have to change his style of play in which he is the most effective by playing this way. Of course, if we could find someone who is a complete package, we don't need to think twice but when we talk about a CB for coverage, we need to think about the kind we need. To me Ledley king is very good in the air but he would be too expensive. It is really tough to think about names. Anton Ferdinard does have the potential but I guess player like Sami is hard to find....
