Yes, they say the agreement is confirmed and Betis is only awaiting for Serra Ferrer's (our coach) approval.

Could be a good move for young Sinama. Could also be a sweetener for us signing Joaquin. I think Sinama will play well in spain and score many goals.

Fron SSN:

Real Betis have struck a deal with Liverpool to sign Florent Sinama-Pongolle, but have yet to decide whether to press ahead with the move.

The Spaniards are desperate to bring in at least one forward during the January transfer window after seeing first choice strikers Ricardo Oliveira and Dani both injured in recent weeks.

Oliveira, Betis' top scorer last term, will miss the rest of the season after damaging knee ligaments while Dani is out for at least a month having sustained an ankle problem.

Currently languishing second bottom of La Primera, Los Verdiblancos have been forced to play Brazilian midfielder Edu in a more advanced role of late and have struggled for goals with just nine in their 13 league games so far.

They have now lined up a deal for Sinama-Pongolle to try and correct that in the New Year, but also have the option to land Portuguese hit-man Helder Postiga having reached agreement with his club, Porto.

They will only sign one of the two players and the decision will now come down to manager Lorenzo Serra Ferrer as Betis vice president Angel Martin explained.

"The agreement with the clubs has been reached, both for Postiga and Sinama, but obviously it's a decision that the manager must take," stated Martin.

"Both Sinama and Postiga are good players but it's a decision for the coaches.

"I understand the dilemma facing Lorenzo because he can't get it wrong, but the president has ensured both players are now available and the final decision will be the coach's."

Sinama-Pongolle came to the attention of Betis with his excellent display in Liverpool's 2-1 UEFA Champions League win at Estadio Ruiz de Lopera earlier this season, scoring The Reds' opener inside the opening sixty seconds that night.

He has failed to secure a first-team berth under Rafa Benitez having made just three starts this term and is likely to jump at the chance to secure regular first-team football.

Meanwhile, Martin also revealed that Betis are on the trail of Valencia midfielder Mario Regueiro, but insisted a striker remained their priority.

I'd be gutted to see Pongo play elsewhere as i'm convinced he can do a job for the club this season. I'm surprised he hasn't played more games this year and am convinced he could partner Crouch or Morientes upfront. I'd only be happy about it if it increased our chances of landing Jaoquin but i figure Betis are unlikely to do any business till the summer and we need a right-winger to come in during the transfer window :(

No reason why we should'nt lend Pongo out!
Its actually better to loan a player to a foriegn team in my opinion to another English club!
This way he'll experience a different style of football than what he's used to here! Can only benefit him in the future.
Wise move by Raffa getting friendly with Betis is a step closer to the much coveted Joaquin! :;):

I don't see the point of loaning players out overseas. If they need to gain experience, the best place for the is the 1st division (now championship). If FSP goes to spain, he could have a fantastic 6 months but could come back non the wiser due to the slower games.
I was also listening to a radio interview with Guillem Ballague the other day, he doesn't think that Joaquin would do well in the EPL. I tend to trust what this guy says, he knows La Liga inside out.

Didnt the SSN report say sign and not loan ?

Anyway i think a loan move is just part of Rafas bait beacsue if Sinama works out there ad Betis wish to keep him he could be part payment for Joaquin leaving us with not so much as first thought of to pay for him. Joquin is certain to leave Betis either in Jan or the summer. With Betis having tasted CL action this season and also flirting with relegation im sure there is no way they can secure more CL football for next year and a player of Joquins calibre would want to play in the top competition. He has also stated himself that he would love to move to Liverpool should he ever leave Betis which is good for us. I could be wrong though after all Dudek has also been rumored to be bait himself to help fund the Simao deal. Either way we get a great winger but id prefer Joaquin any day.

Must admit im getting a bit worried reading SSN report on it, they seem to imply that it is a transfer and not a loan...

Betis in Anfield had no strikers, but when it came to move the ball, I think they moved the ball pretty fast, that's what I saw, and more than one commented here. Perhaps in spain there's more game interruptions, more fouls conceded, but speed has been a constant and a must in every one of the primera teams, since the early nineties.

Im sure Rafa would not want to 'sell' him and leave hima  striker short unless he was going after someone like Joaquin. Rafa is obviously raising funds for something and it may not even be Joquin. It could even be for Kuyt.
