On the one hand, I agree their defence has played very well as a unit.  On the other hand, individual mistakes have cost them recently, so it may be they're tiring mentally.  And on the other hand, Jewell rested some of the first team last night.

I think we'll win.  We seem to have worked out how to win the so-called 'routine' games.

Indeed, and best thing is that he's improving -- I see an evolution since he started loaned on Eibar and the 3 seasons in San Sebastian. He's stronger now, and not only makes the pitch wider with his long balls, but also dares to shoot on goal more, better positioning and assists like yesterday's.

Well best in the world is much to say, but I don't quite remember in the las 25 years a better Spanish midfielder, he's MUCH better than Guardiola, or Baraja, or any midfielder. Perhaps it's what we need to get past the quarter of finals in the WC, and Luis Garcia :)

I think it's a very positive experience for our footballers to learn in a football like yours... in my view both LG and Alonso are better players now.

Looking back now, post Istanbul, I still don't think a lot of people took us seriously enough. All talk was of a fairytale victory that would be a flash in the pan and whilst we were all absolutely delighted and proud to win it as supporters, I don't think any of us for one minute thought we were the best team in Europe by any means. However now things have change we are improving in leaps and bounds and the doubters who were writing us off are now announcing another Liverpool victory as a triumph for the current European Cup holders. Hell, even opposing managers are starting to pay us respect after a defeat (Alan Pardew comes to mind).

In a way, it's amazing how similar to Rafa's old Valencia side we are becoming. His decision to completly overhaul the entire system within the club is starting to pay dividends. Seven clean sheets in a row tells it's own story. Winning after a European tie is now becoming less difficult and winning away from home in general is no longer seen as noose around our necks. The fact that we are now showing signs of consistency proves that we are heading in the right direction and that is upwards. We have a fair bit of youth in the squad and Rafa's unwillingness to settle for what we have bodes well for the future, not just the present as was the case under Houllier who seemed content to win on a monday and not worry that we may lose on thursday.

Respect is earned not demanded and that i believe is why the neutrals are pleased the see us getting our act together as a strong liverpool can only be a positive for the game. As great as it was, success in the 70's and 80's does not mean people have to respect you for ever and i think our appalling form in the 90's and early 00's put paid to any respect opponents held when faced with a game against us.

Also it must be said that a lot of football fans under 25 (I'm only 24) would not remember the glory days and therefore disregard it as ancient history, so now they are lucky that we could possibly be embarking on what i beleive can be the most exciting period in our recent history. Last season's success has to be built on (if only to stop the inevitable Gerrard contract dispute in the summer).  :D

2002-2003 season was the last time we won 4 times in a row, prior to that I think we won 7 straight.
