Rick parry - Too fookin soft

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby Paul C » Tue Aug 30, 2005 11:20 am

I just want to know peoples opinion on Rick Parry, personally I think his style is too laid back and he expects everyone to just come to Anfield, this isn't a knock on effect after the Owen deal falling through but it shows how when we want someone we p155 about too much, if LFC wanted him they should have put the effort in like what Freddie Shepard did.

I think Parry is too soft and to take the club forward we need someone more cut throat  :(

The deal was one too many between Madrid and Liverpool. They have turned us over one time too many in the market and it was not going to happen again. I mean they stole Owen for £8m and gave us Nunez, criminal in itself. Before that we got rolled in the Macmanan deal. They used Morientes as sub and cup tied him to screw us over another time when they knew we wanted him. Then they try and ride us in the Figo saga by demanding £2m when they said he was on a free. I mean how many times you want us to bummed by these guys in Madrid? Parry was right this time. No deal.

This is the same Rick Parry that pussy footed around Owen for 18 month, if it wasn't for Rafa coming in and sayin either sign or go then we would have got nothing for Owen!

Sorry Paul but i think your being far too harsh which is probably understandable in this emotive time.
It seemed to be Owen and his agents that were pussyfooting around and im sure if Rick had played hardball and sold him off 18months earlier  for a bigger price. He would have had a bunch of fans trying to lynch him.
I would have liked to have seen MO back but not at that price

I didn't want to view this thread but not post...so, no, I don't think Rick Parry is too soft and don't believe there is a shred of evidence he is.

Fair enough, but it's not the Owen thing that has made me think about this, you look at the amount of people that slated Parry and Moores at the time of the Steve Morgan offers but all of a sudden everyone thinks he's good for the club, time will tell trust me :;):

In all fairness Paul I'd rather consolidate than overspend. Ok I'm gutted to miss out on Owen but at the end of the day the asking price was too high. We are in debt if you consider the signings made by GH and subsequently written off via free transfers and loans. There was only going to be so much time before we simply couldn't afford to do that - we were banking on future successes.

Fortunately for us we won the CL and that must have righted the boat so to speak, but we obviously still aren't quite right. £14m on Cisse and £10m on Alsono were massive signings last year, and this year we have still spent a respectible amount of money but we haven't recouped that much have we?

Maybe we all need to be a bit more realistic. Our Carlsberg deal should now have paid off and we must be soon in position to take advantage of a new kit deal - please not sh#tty reebok again!!

If Rafa can get his hands on Solano and a CB of a decent quality then that will have to do, let get behind them and the team and get into the top 4 or 3, defend our title and next year we can start splashing the cash again.

I've thought all along that a deal with Owen was unlikely - Real are too preoccupied with maintaining a dominant, aggressive persona in the transfer market to have allowed LFC to get him for little more than the money paid 12 months ago, particularly when there was a bigger offer from another club. To be honest, if we had got him for £10m, it would have been a seriously good bit of business by Parry and co. But we haven't, and that's not a million miles away from what I expected.

Ask me again about Parry when the transfer window closes. If by then we're still without quality signings for centre back and right midfield, I don't think I'll be alone in moaning.

I would throw that back to you Paul..............Like who  ???

Who would you want as our Chief exec if Parry resigned today.

My personal thoughts are that Rick comes across as a very methodical individual, and will no way compromise LFC's financial standing for a 'big name' player whoever he is. I personally applaud that. however there is always a fine line between being completely bonkers in the transfer market, and being a skinflint.

We do not want to be another Leeds, unveiling mega signing after mega signing to keep up with the so-called 'big three'. I would much rather wait, and let Parry, Moores and Rafa take this club forward on a much stronger founfdation.

Walk on.

He should have taken some of the money on offer from last year. Could have got some pretty good players for that cash.

Owen not coming, is it that bad a scenario? Personally I won't lose too much sleep over it. Don't think Rafa wants his hand tied and why should we bend over and let Madrid screw us all over again? If Owen join Newcastle for footballing reason, then I'll say it is either monetary motivated (better terms + sweetener from Real for accepting a higher transfer £££) or yet another wrong decision. Either way, it's better Owen at the barcodes than with the mancs. I think a CB and RM is priority and in times, hope Rafa prove he's right yet again!...oh and don't forget we will finally get paid our £4M :D

Dunno Paul. I'm not close enough to the action to know about Parry. On the one hand I'm inclined to agree with you that he's too soft but then when you read the litany of Reals dealings with us you have to say that it was time say no to their ridiculous demands. Either way we've missed out on a proven goalscorer who if we are to believe all we've read, wanted to come to us.

Unfortunately, regardless of opinion, the fact remains that we do not have a proven goalscorer in our ranks and I for one fear another season of firing blanks in games that we should win easily. ( can you remember the last time that we had a league game sown up with half an hour to go - I cant),

Meanwhile the CB and RW that apparently are our priorities are nowhere to be seen. Possibly Solano will come in as a stop gap. The alternatives? Garcia - hes had the time but to me has only proved that he cannot tackle, pass, score or even hit the target nine out of ten. Cisse - winger? you're havin a laugh. Finnan - he's the best RB in the league FGS. Dont be playing him there just to give a game to Josemi. Pongo - possibly but I have my doubts.

Whilst all this is going on we still have a problem over on the left where Bolo seems to have forgotten the art of taking on fullbacks. Riise is probably a better bet but doesnt seem to have the confidence of the manager and we eagerly await the return of Harry from another career launching operation.

Move to the strikers and it seems that Nando has lost interest and our possible saviour is Crouch who cost 7 million having had a successful half season with a team now struggling in the championship. In case everyone has forgotten our leading scorer last season has been shipped our to Villa.

Back to defence and it looks like a long hard season for Carra and Sami. Not much sign of a rest for them is there?

Other than that everything seems okay

Raffa is the boss. When it comes to players Liverpool want, it his decision. From day 1 he has been determined about not taking Owen back. Believe him.
He will be responsible for success, or God forbid, Failure.
