What's that got to do with the price of eggs, I hear you type? Well, what it means to a football manager is this; What's the point in shelling out loads on a couple of superstars, when we don't have a full squad with adequate cover. A fine example of this is the Real Madrid team after Hierro and Makalele left. Astounding going forward where the players were worth hundreds of millions, but they had a non-existant defence and it cost them. Rafa has looked at our squad and got rid of the rubbish. No more Biscan't, no more Diouf, So long Cheyrou and adios Antonio Nunez. He has replaced them with players that he thinks have potential (Gonzales, Barragan, Sissoko, Hobbs), good records (Reina) and Premiership experience (Zenden and Crouch). He has added dimensions and he's always looking to progress. I would have loved to see SWP or Aimar turn up this summer, but that would have meant probably selling Stevie or not buying four of the above players at least.

I think that Rafa sees this season as the real start. Qualify for Europe, make up ground on the big boys and get into the habit of winning. I've said this before and I'll say it again, This is Liverpool and we don't do quick fixes. We are not Leeds who spent big and collapsed, we are not Real Madrid who have all of the glamour and none of the guts. We are the European Champions, we've got what it takes and when we need to spend £20m on a single player we will, but we don't need to now.

Shanks and Paisley bought "pups" but you've got to look at the direction the teams are taking. It's impossible to be right all the time and as far as the direction that this team is taking I wouldn't fault Raffa, especially if he brought back Owen.
Look at the rejects other "top three" clubs are moving on - even Wenger finding it difficult to find the nuggets which were his trademark.
Stick with Raffa lad - he's doing alright !

Before i go on ,this is not a knock at , it is not a negative doom and gloom opinon.(Well i dont think so ).

It is a pure and honest question to which i would like a pure and honest feedback.

I  personally do have my doubts it seems to ME Rafa has bought quantity over quality, The transfer market doesnt seem to offer an abundance of good quality players.
Im just not sure that we have made enough quality signings  to fight for a top three finnish at the end of the season.
To me Zenden and Crouch are good squad players but they havent (yet) improved the team,ok Crouch does bring something different up front, Zenden for me doesnt offer anything really in terms of pace and flair for a winger .( God i would love a John Barnes type of player out there). Then there is the opposite wing where nothing has really changed, maybe though, Flo has returned to action so heres hoping but still.
I doubt there is hardly a Liverpool fan out there who thought we would bring in the likes of Zenden and Crouch ?
I shall reserve any judgement or comments for Reina as i havent seen him play,Sissoko though is the one buy i do think can help the team.
This is just a brief summary on the higher profile players brought in and im not sure whether they will help the Reds in there quest  to finnish in a much improved position to last.
To me aswell the likes of Spurs ,Newcastle,Villa ,Bolton and maybe Charlton will be breathing down our necks a lot heavier.
It just makes me wonder that maybe the chasing pack is more likely to be gaining ground on us than we are on the likes of the Chelsea,ManU and Arsenal.

I wish i was more academic in my writing skills to put the point across in a more detailed/indepth way.
Please dont take this as negative comment, more though a pondering thought from a fellow Liverpool fan.

I know I reckon we call for his head.

Early days yet but Benithez is a proven winner on with repeated success. If he only had won La Liga or in Europe only once, it can be said as being lucky.

Benithez should know what he wants and is trying to address things his way. I must admit that seeing the unknowns do raise the eyebrow. Sissoko, after seeing him play, has eliminated a lot of my doubts and the rest should be at least better than the players Benithez let go in the summer.

Mate, why are you taking the p1ss? He's not bad-mouthing rafa or Liverpool, he's asking a perfectly reasonable question 'Are these the signings we were expecting?' and I think that Reina notwithstanding the answer to that question would be no.  I personally would have liked to see more players of outstanding quality, the vicente's, joaquin's and ronaldinho's of this world but the fact of the matter is that those players arent there to be signed and even if they were then we probably don't have the money.  I would have liked to see us sign and experienced, quality centre back to partner carragher, as well as a classy right winger.  It hasn't happened and its not what I expected.  I imagine its much the same case for Bamaga man.  He's not b1tching he's asking how we feel about the signings.

I would've expected more quality but with what Rafa has done so far if he feels that Crouch, Zended etc. are what we need then I'll be backing him 100%
