i don't know why we are getting so riled up over comments made by 2 has beens. the season has not even begun yet and the knives are out already. whether we will end up being champion or last will be determine over the course of the next 10 months and as fans we must believe in the course that is being plotted by rafa. they are entitle to their opinions as are we.

It's insane, we've won more matches without Gerrard in the team than we have when he was in the squad. Proving that we don't depend on Gerrard. We've won key games in the CL without Gerrard, like the one against Juventus in the second leg.

Well AB if I wanted to be pedantic I could point out that we drew the second leg in Turin

agree with most of the comments having a go at the pundits. Fact is we have won everything so far we have played in and they have very little to pick on. We are scoring goals and haven't conceded many either, haven't picked up any bookings and limited the injuries so far. In terms of strategy, I think we tick all boxes.

Of course the team is still finding its feet. Players are acclimatising to the style of play, each other and that will take time. I am not expecting a massive massive improvement in the league this year as I think it takes most foreigners 1 season to get up to speed with the premiership style. We should expect the people who came in last year to step up now and the season after that we'll be on fire. If it comes quicker, then great, but I am realistic. If you think about it, we are fighting a losing battle anyhow, cos we'll have to retain the CL or the claims will be that we have deteriorated.

Positives for the night were for me the depth of the squad that we have now. There were a lot of names on the bench last night that we would have been depending on even at this stage of the pre-season a few years back. It says a lot that we can keep them fresh up until the start of the season.

Zenden looks like he is one notch away from devastating to me. He is keen to play, energetic (his tracking back continued all the way to the end) and I think he gives us great options. Another keeper in the squad who appeared sure of himself during the moments he was called into action. Cisse looks to me like he is enjoying himself a lot and has the taste for a good run of goals as well.

We still need to work on giving the ball away too cheaply and too many up and unders. With the quality we have on the field, this shouldn't be a problem.

On last nights evidence I regret to say that I have to agree with the pundits .As things stand we don't possess sufficent quality in depth to mount a serious challenge to the top three . Without Gerrard , Alonso, Cisse and Carragher, our limitations are there for all to see. Any concurrent injury or suspension
to two or three of the above named and we will struggle.

we had alonso on the bench for the whole match and he's one of the best passers in the world. also carra wasn't used.
i think rafa was just treating this partly for seeing potter,warnock etc play. :nod

i mean, who would ever think that kaunas would come back from a 3-1 deficit?

anyway, they'll step up a gear when it gets to the 3rd round :cool:

Yeah, no more needs to be said about these two idiots comments after the match. They weren't really being objective, just nit-picking because we didn't hit top gear with an understrength side against a poor team. They'll be eating their words in a month or two. It's fickle.

They don't know their ar$e from their elbow anyway.

I see your point woof, but you could say the same for all the top clubs.

If Arsenal lost Henry, Gilberto (which they did last seoans, and were a far better side when he returned) and Ashley Cole they would struggle.

If Manure lost Rooney, Keane and Rio they would struggle.

Chelsea are possibly the only team that could get by with a few stars out, although it would be interesting to see what would happen if Lampard, Terry and Robben were all injured at the same time.

Fair comment LFC ,but I never see Arsenal or ManU losing the amount of players to injury etc the way we have over the past couple of seasons,and when they have lost key players they seem able to cope with it more effectively than us.

Being honest i was bored in the first half but totally expected it.
We won the tie in Lithuania and were never going to be under pressure, Rafa did the right thing resting Carra, Alonso, Riise and Stevie and giving runouts to Whitbread, Carson and Warnock.
The second half was better with Cisse offering far more than Nando...and then Gerrard as energetic and brilliant as ever.
At the end of the day we went through 5-1 on agg, totally comfortable.
As someone else posted the pundits have time to fill at the end of the show, they didn't really have much to talk about so started the sniping, that doesnt bother me at all...in one ear out the other.
The Gerrard comments that were made were just stupid, he is our best player closely followed by alonso and carragher.
With Riise Reina and Cisse as well thats half a side, take cech, terry, gallas lampard and gudjohnson out of the chelsea side, and although the replacements may be better than what we have, they will still be a bit disjointed.
I'm pleased with pre-season, and cant wait for a week sat when the REAL season begins.

Tyldesley the pr!ck still managed to get it in though when commentating on the European Cup final halfway through the second half. I’ve got both the SKY and ITV commentaries on DVD at home and I have to say that SKY is better purely for Andy Gray’s comments on Crespo’s second goal.

Lets get this into perspective. These pundits are pundits for a reason - they can't cut it in a proper football management or coaching job. They're knowledge of the game is probably not that great.

Fu.ck sake McCoist spent more time in the pub than on the training field when he was a player, what does he know? He's the Scottish national side's strikers coach at the moment, when was the last time a Scottish player scored an international goal FFS? Good work Ally, keep it up mate

Townsend I usually don't have a problem with but he was out of order last night. His footballing education was provided by such master tacticians as Jack Charlton and Ron Atkinson so no wonder he knows fu.ck all either.
